The Altiplano Ultimate Concept is not a conventional watch. Caliber 910P at 2mm total thickness holds the world record for the thinnest mechanical wristwatch. The movement IS the caseback -- there is no separate caseback component. Any watch with a traditional solid or display caseback cannot be a genuine 910P. This is the fastest single authentication check for this reference.

This is an absolute check. If there is a caseback, it is not a 910P. No intermediate states exist. The 910P's movement IS its caseback, and no replica has achieved this architecture.

Caseback architecture

Original: The 910P has no conventional caseback. The movement back plate serves as the exterior surface of the watch. When you turn the 910P over, you see the movement directly -- there is no separate back plate, no screw threads for a separate caseback, and no display caseback with a sapphire window. The movement metal IS the surface.

Replacement tells
  • Any traditional solid caseback (screwed or snap-fit) indicates a different watch entirely
  • Any display caseback with a sapphire window indicates a different watch
  • Caseback with engravings in the traditional position where a separate piece would screw in
  • Any visible gap between case body and a separate back component
Total thickness measurement

Original: Using a caliper across the thickest point of the watch: genuine 910P measures 2.0mm. Any reading substantially above 2.5mm indicates a different watch. The measurement should be taken at the sapphire crystal, which represents the maximum height.

  • Caliper measurement above 3mm
  • Watch feels like a normal ultra-thin dress watch rather than the extreme-thinness experience of the 910P
  • Watch sits more than minimally proud of a flat surface when placed dial-down
Crown position

Original: The 910P has a crown integrated into the case side at 2 o'clock (not the traditional 3 o'clock). This is necessary because the 2mm thickness leaves no room for a conventional crown at 3 o'clock. The crown design is minimal and integrated with the titanium case.

  • Crown at 3 o'clock in the conventional position
  • Crown profile inconsistent with the minimal titanium design
  • Crown protrudes more than 0.5mm from the case side

Movement tells

  • Caliber 910P is hand-wound manual. There is no automatic rotor of any kind -- the extreme thinness is only possible without a winding mechanism. The crown winds the mainspring directly. A watch claiming to be a 910P that winds automatically from wrist motion has a different movement.
  • The manual winding feel at 2.0mm of total thickness is unusually light -- the mainspring is necessarily thin, providing a different tactile experience than conventional manual-wind watches.
  • Service of the 910P requires Piaget authorization. The movement cannot be disassembled by non-specialist watchmakers without risk of deformation. Service history on any grey-market 910P should be scrutinized carefully.
