Authentication
The flying tourbillon must have no visible upper bearing or bridge above the cage; any tourbillon with a visible upper support is a different architecture.
Known issues in the market
- The silicon/platinum inertia weights are De Bethune's thermal compensation system; their presence is verifiable only under magnification by a specialist.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| movement | Flying tourbillon architecture | Tourbillon cage with no visible upper bearing or bridge; appears to float above the movement | Visible upper bearing or cage support; different tourbillon architecture, not a flying tourbillon |
| movement | Tourbillon rotation rate | Cage completes exactly one rotation per 60 seconds | Rotation rate deviating from 60 seconds; regulation issue |
| caseback | DB28T serial and documentation | Matching serial number and original De Bethune certificate | Missing or non-matching documentation; requires expert authentication |
Common legitimate replacements
- No common replacements; De Bethune parts are proprietary.
