The Alpine Eagle is Chopard's 2020 redesign of the St. Moritz, built around "Lucent Steel A223" a proprietary alloy. The "eagle eye" dial texture and the integrated bracelet are the two most important visual elements. Less commonly replicated than established integrated-bracelet icons, but growing attention warrants scrutiny.

Alpine Eagle replicas are uncommon given the watch's recent introduction and relatively specialist market. The eagle eye dial texture and integrated bracelet are the most likely points of deviation on any replica attempt.

Lucent Steel A223

Original: Lucent Steel A223 is Chopard's proprietary alloy, harder and more scratch-resistant than standard 316L stainless steel. It has a slightly different visual character -- a cooler, brighter reflectance compared to standard steel. This cannot be verified without metallurgical testing, but is a background signal.

Replacement tells
  • Case surface that shows deep scratches from normal carry, inconsistent with the claimed hardness of Lucent Steel A223 (standard steel scratches more easily)
  • Case finishing character that appears identical to standard 316L stainless in color and reflectance rather than the brighter Lucent Steel character
Eagle eye dial texture

Original: The concentric radiating texture is produced at dial manufacture and has depth that catches and shifts light as the watch moves. Under a loupe, the texture shows crisp concentric ridges that cast micro-shadows.

Replacement tells
  • Flat printed texture with no tactile or optical depth, which indicates a non-original dial
  • Texture that is not centered on the dial -- the concentric rings must emanate from the center of the dial
  • Texture that fades or becomes shallower toward the dial periphery
Silicon escapement components

Original: Cal. 01.01-C uses silicon pallet forks and escape wheel for anti-magnetic performance and lubricant-free operation at the escapement level. These are not visible without movement disassembly but affect the functional behavior: the movement is resistant to standard magnetic fields.

Replacement tells
  • Rate instability after brief exposure to a magnet, suggesting the movement has been swapped to a non-silicon-escapement caliber
  • Service documentation referencing a non-Chopard caliber in the Alpine Eagle case

Movement tells

  • Cal. 01.01-C runs at 28,800bph with a 60-hour power reserve and COSC certification. Rate testing on a timegrapher should confirm operation within the -4/+6 seconds per day COSC standard.
  • Silicon pallet forks and escape wheel mean the escapement does not require lubrication at service intervals in the way conventional steel components do. A service report that does not note this is likely performed by a non-authorized watchmaker unfamiliar with the caliber.
  • The movement architecture is the modern L.U.C platform; Côtes de Genève striping should be visible on the movement plates through the caseback.
