The Patrimony Self-Winding with perpetual calendar uses the ultra-thin 2450 caliber in a 41mm gold case; secondary prices reflect extreme thinness, complications density, and the Hallmark of Geneva certification.

Editorial estimate, 2026 Q2. Actual prices vary by condition, date, and box/papers status.

The peripheral micro-rotor is the defining Cal. 2450 Q6/3 feature; it must be visible integrated into the movement plate, not sitting above it.

Known issues in the market
  • The micro-rotor is hidden within the movement plate; any caseback showing a conventional rotor sitting above the movement indicates a movement swap.
  • Perpetual calendar apertures (day, date, month, year) must all be correctly synchronized; mis-synchronization indicates a service issue or tampered module.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Perpetual calendar modules are complex and costly to service; module replacement is a legitimate but disclosure-required procedure.
  • Leather strap is the standard configuration; integrated bracelets do not exist for this model.
Expert resources: Vacheron Constantin serial verification for perpetual calendar module pairing. Advance the date through February 28-29 of a leap year in the perpetual calendar menu to verify correct leap year function.

The Patrimony 85180 is VC's definitive ultra-thin automatic dress watch. Its entire identity rests on case thinness, visual restraint, and finishing quality. Any non-original component stands out immediately because there is nowhere on the dial to hide it.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

Outright replicas of the Patrimony 85180 are uncommon given the specialist market and the difficulty of replicating a genuine ultra-thin automatic movement.

  • Case height visibly greater than the correct sub-6mm specification
  • Exhibition caseback movement with bridge geometry inconsistent with the Cal. 2450 Q6/2
  • Dial with any aperture or date window
  • Micro-rotor without Maltese cross decoration

Parts-mixing is a greater practical risk than outright replicas at this tier. A Patrimony date-variant dial swapped into an 85180 case is the most common mixed-parts scenario.

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2012 to present (current generation)Sunburst silver dial in rose gold case. No date, no sub-dials, no complications. Pure time display only.
  • Sunburst radial finish radiating from the center outward, visibly changing character as the watch tilts
  • Applied white gold baton indices with no luminous fill
  • "Vacheron Constantin" and "Geneve" in the correct VC typeface, applied or precisely printed
  • No date window of any kind; presence of an aperture disqualifies the example as an 85180
  • Hour and minute hands only; leaf or baton profile in rose gold to match the case

Service part flags

toggle
Dial

Original: Sunburst silver or opaline dial with perfectly executed radial brushing from the center pinion. The texture is visible under directional light as a spoke-wheel pattern. No printing exists at the dial center; all text is precisely applied.

Replacement tells
  • Dial with any aperture or complication window; the 85180 has only hours and minutes
  • Sunburst finish that appears flat or uneven under raking light
  • Applied indices with inconsistent height or angular spacing
  • Brand text that shows any edge bleed or inconsistent line weight under loupe
Hands

Original: Leaf or baton hands in rose gold matching the case metal. Extremely thin profile consistent with the sub-6mm case height. Hands must not contact the dial at any point.

Replacement tells
  • Contact marks on the dial surface beneath the hour or minute hand sweep area
  • Hands with a profile visibly thicker than the ultra-thin specification
  • Hands in a metal color inconsistent with the case variant (white gold hands in a rose gold case or vice versa)
Crown

Original: Round crown engraved with the Maltese cross on its face. Correct size proportional to the case diameter. Winding and hand-setting action should be smooth with no lateral play.

Replacement tells
  • Crown without the Maltese cross engraving
  • Crown that shows lateral play when pulled to the setting position
  • Crown diameter disproportionate to the thin case profile

Case back markings

toggle
2012 to present
  • Exhibition caseback displaying Cal. 2450 Q6/2 or its evolution
  • Maltese cross on the 22k gold micro-rotor visible through the caseback
  • Poincon de Geneve (Hallmark of Geneva) on movement components; stricter than the Geneva Seal and requires each individual part to meet the standard
  • "Vacheron Constantin Geneve" on the movement plate
  • 750 hallmark for the 18ct rose gold case
  • Reference 85180/000R-9166 and serial number between the lugs

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. 2450 Q6/2 is one of the thinnest automatic movements in production at approximately 2.05mm. Any movement visible through the caseback that appears taller than the case cavity depth is incorrect.
  • The Poincon de Geneve on this caliber means every bridge and plate surface must show hand-beveling, polished countersinks, and anglage of consistent quality. Machine marks on any surface visible through the caseback disqualify the claim.
  • Cotes de Geneve striping on the plate must be precisely parallel and clearly differentiated under magnification. Faint or irregular striping indicates a non-original movement.
  • Power reserve is approximately 40 hours. A fully wound example stopping before 32 hours indicates a mainspring or barrel service requirement.
  • The micro-rotor in 22k gold should spin with zero lateral play. Any grinding sensation or resistance indicates worn ball-bearing races, a known wear item on ultra-thin automatic movements.
