Authentication

Yellow gold Day-Date with Cal. 3255; the President bracelet clasp signature and day disc language are the two details to verify.

Known issues in the market
  • Day discs are available in multiple languages; confirm language matches documented configuration.
  • President bracelet clasps are high-value replacement targets; verify concealed deployment mechanism is signed Rolex on the underside.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The 128238 is the current 36mm Day-Date in 18ct yellow gold on a President bracelet, introduced in 2019. It uses Cal. 3255 and shares the same precious-metal-only constraint as all Day-Date references. As with the larger 228238, any steel Day-Date is a misrepresented example.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
HIGH RISK

Base-metal or plated Day-Date 36 cases

  • A magnet will not attract genuine 18ct yellow gold; any magnetic response from the case or bracelet indicates base metal content
  • Case color that appears too uniform or lacks the warm depth of solid gold under different lighting conditions
  • Bracelet wear at pin holes or clasp edges revealing a different color underneath

The Day-Date 36 has never been produced in steel or Rolesor. No legitimate factory configuration exists.

Dial variants by era

Service part flags

President bracelet

Original: Solid 18ct yellow gold three-piece link bracelet with a concealed clasp. The 36mm version uses slightly narrower links than the 40mm variant.

Replacement tells
  • Bracelet links that appear too wide for the 36mm lug width
  • Gold that appears hollow when the bracelet is flexed or when a link end is viewed
  • Clasp visible when the bracelet is closed (should be flush and concealed)

Case back markings

toggle
2019 to present
  • Solid yellow gold caseback
  • Engraved: ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL DAY-DATE
  • Rolex crown at center
  • Reference 128238 and serial between the lugs

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. 3255 is the correct movement; 70-hour power reserve is the key diagnostic. Service documentation noting the older Cal. 3155 indicates a movement replacement.
  • The oscillating weight is in 18ct yellow gold to match the case.
  • Day wheel correction should work via the quickset mechanism at the appropriate crown position without advancing the date simultaneously; if they advance together, the quickset is broken.
