Authentication

Confirm no chronograph pushers; three-register layout without chrono distinguishes this from chrono variants.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Carrera Date Calibre 5 is TAG's entry-level three-hand automatic in the Carrera line. The Calibre 5 (Sellita SW200-1 base) is a reliable workhorse. This is a significantly simpler watch than the Heuer 02 chronograph variants -- no exhibition caseback, no column wheel, and no in-house movement. The authentication priority is confirming it is not misrepresented as a Heuer 02 variant.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

Misrepresentation of the Carrera Date Calibre 5 as a Heuer 02 chronograph variant.

  • No pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock -- the Heuer 02 Carrera has flush integrated pushers; their absence confirms this is the three-hand Date model
  • Solid caseback rather than the exhibition window of the Heuer 02 chronograph variants
  • Three hands only, no sub-registers on the dial

The Carrera Date is a legitimate watch; the risk is paying a chronograph premium for a three-hand reference.

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2015 to present (silver)Silver dial with applied indices and a date window at 3 o'clock. A clean, simple Carrera presentation.
  • Silver or sunburst dial with applied indices at 12, 3, 6, and 9
  • Date window at 3 o'clock, no Cyclops magnifier
  • No sub-registers -- this is a three-hand watch, not a chronograph
  • No pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock -- the absence of pushers immediately identifies the non-chronograph Carrera
  • 41mm case with a standard lug profile

Service part flags

Calibre 5 movement

Original: TAG Calibre 5 is a Sellita SW200-1 base, TAG-finished. Runs at 28,800bph with approximately 38 hours power reserve. Solid caseback -- no exhibition window on this variant.

Replacement tells
  • Exhibition caseback on a stated Carrera Date Calibre 5 -- this reference uses a solid caseback; an exhibition window suggests a component mix-up or misrepresentation
  • Power reserve significantly shorter than 35 hours from full wind, indicating a worn mainspring
  • Crown with a screw-down mechanism -- the Carrera Date uses a push/pull crown (not screw-down)
Case and pusher absence

Original: No chronograph pushers. The case has a clean profile at 2 and 4 o'clock -- no pusher tubes, no recessed pusher openings. This is one of the quickest visual distinctions from the Carrera Heuer 02.

Replacement tells
  • Pusher tubes at 2 and 4 o'clock on a stated Carrera Date -- the three-hand Carrera has no pushers
  • Case profile inconsistent with the 41mm Carrera Date geometry

Case back markings

toggle
2015 to present
  • Solid caseback with "CALIBRE 5" designation engraved
  • "TAG HEUER CARRERA" on the outer ring
  • Serial number on the case midband or caseback

Movement tells

toggle
  • Calibre 5 (SW200-1 base), 28,800bph, approximately 38 hours power reserve. A straightforward service record. No complications beyond the date.
  • Quickset date at crown position 2 should correct cleanly. The Carrera Date uses a standard quick-set date mechanism from the SW200-1 base.
  • No screw-down crown -- the Carrera Date crown is push/pull only. 100m water resistance is achieved by case sealing, not a screw-down crown.
