Authentication

Any bracelet movement at the lug interface indicates wear or incorrect replacement; verify the end-links are Piaget-signed.

Known issues in the market
  • The Polo S integrated bracelet has tight tolerances at the lug interface; any lateral play indicates wear or an aftermarket bracelet.
  • Aftermarket bracelets exist for the Polo S and should be disclosed; verify the end-link signing before purchase.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Integrated bracelets are the most frequently replaced part on pre-owned Polo S examples; aftermarket options affect value.
  • Rubber lug options were available from Piaget; an original rubber option is different from an aftermarket strap adaptation.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Polo S Automatic 42mm is Piaget's steel integrated-bracelet sport watch. Caliber 1160P is an in-house automatic at 4.4mm thin. The integrated bracelet with brushed top lugs and polished flanks is the primary exterior authentication point. Polo S replicas exist at the high end of the replica market.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
HIGH RISK

Central rotor instead of peripheral winding mechanism

  • Standard half-moon automatic rotor visible through caseback rather than a peripheral ring
  • Movement architecture looks like a generic automatic rather than the Piaget 1160P
  • Decorated bridges absent -- Piaget always has Cotes de Geneve

The peripheral rotor is the most distinctive visual marker of caliber 1160P. It is unusual enough that no off-the-shelf replica movement replicates it accurately. Any watch with a central rotor is not running caliber 1160P.

HIGH RISK

Bracelet finishing too uniform

  • Links are uniformly brushed without polished flanks
  • Brushed-to-polished transitions are gradual rather than sharp
  • Link proportions appear slightly different from the genuine bracelet profile

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2016 to presentSilver or blue dial with applied index markers and no date on the primary variant; date variant exists at 3 o'clock. The dial has a satin-brushed finish with a slightly warm tone. "PIAGET" at 12, "POLO S" below. The integrated bracelet continues the case shape seamlessly at the lugs. The brushed top surface and polished flanks of the bracelet links are a critical finishing tell.
  • Integrated steel bracelet with brushed tops and polished flanks on each link
  • "POLO S" designation on dial below "PIAGET"
  • Applied index markers (no Arabic numerals)
  • Silver or blue dial in satin finish
  • Date window at 3 o'clock on date variant
  • 42mm case with rounded, smooth case band

Bracelet finishing

Original: The Polo S bracelet has a distinctive two-surface finish: top faces of each link are brushed, the flanks are polished to a mirror finish. The transition between brushed and polished surfaces is sharp and clean. Replicas typically fail to reproduce this dual finish accurately.

Replacement tells
  • Uniformly brushed bracelet links without polished flanks
  • Uniformly polished links without brushed tops
  • Brushed-to-polished transition is gradual or blurry rather than a crisp line
  • Link thickness or proportions inconsistent with the genuine Polo S bracelet
Movement through caseback

Original: Caliber 1160P is visible through the sapphire display caseback. The movement has a peripheral winding system (the rotor runs around the movement perimeter rather than centrally). This is visually distinctive: instead of a normal half-moon rotor, the winding mechanism appears as a peripheral ring or partial ring at the movement edge.

Replacement tells
  • Central full-moon or half-moon rotor instead of peripheral winding mechanism
  • Undecorated bridges -- Piaget 1160P has Cotes de Geneve and anglage
  • Movement architecture inconsistent with a peripheral rotor configuration
  • Non-gold rotor components where gold finishing is expected
Crown

Original: The crown on the Polo S is set flush with the case side -- it does not protrude significantly. The push-pull crown (not screwdown) integrates with the case profile. The crown position sits at 3 o'clock.

Replacement tells
  • Crown protrudes excessively from the case band
  • Screwdown crown where non-screwdown is correct
  • Crown has visible play or wobbles without being in a winding position

Case back markings

toggle
2016 to present
  • Caliber 1160P designation engraved
  • "PIAGET" with the Piaget logo
  • Water resistance: 100m
  • Reference G0A41003 with serial number
  • "STAINLESS STEEL" case material notation
  • "SWISS MADE" inscription

Movement tells

toggle
  • Caliber 1160P has a 50-hour power reserve. A watch stopping in under 24 hours from full wind has a different movement or worn mainspring.
  • The peripheral winding system: the rotor running at the perimeter of the movement winds in both directions and provides a light, smooth winding sensation. A watch with a heavy central-rotor winding feel does not have caliber 1160P.
  • The movement is 4.4mm thick -- notably thin for an automatic movement in a sport watch. The total case height of 9.4mm is achieved despite the integrated bracelet architecture.
