Dial variants

Broad arrow dial1957 to 1963 (vintage original); 2014 reissueUncommonSought
  • Broad arrow hands (wider, military-style arrowhead on hour hand)
  • Lollipop seconds hand instead of standard baton
  • Strong contrast matte black dial with large applied indices
  • Heritage reissue retains the vintage layout faithfully

The broad arrow configuration is the collector-preferred expression of the Seamaster 300. The 2014 Heritage reissue and the 2017 60th Anniversary editions are modern references that reproduce this dial honestly without trying to pass as genuine vintage.

Non-broad arrow standard dial1964 to 1967UncommonStandard
  • Standard baton hour hand (no broad arrow)
  • Standard seconds hand, not lollipop
  • Otherwise shares the large applied indices and strong contrast

Omega shifted from the broad arrow to standard hands on later vintage Seamaster 300 production. The non-broad arrow examples are less sought but represent genuine vintage pieces at a lower entry point.

Authentication

The lollipop seconds hand is the single most important authentication point on the Seamaster 300 Heritage; any example with a standard baton seconds hand has the wrong hand set.

Known issues in the market
  • Lollipop seconds hand substitution with a standard baton hand is the most common deviation on unscrupulous sales.
  • The radial brushed "tropical-style" dial has very specific sector lines; counterfeit dials use printed rather than brushed sectors.
  • METAS certification is mandatory on Cal. 8912; any example without the METAS caseback stamp is not a genuine 2014-generation watch.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Hand sets are the most replaced component; confirm lollipop seconds hand is Omega-signed or period-correct.
  • Straps on vintage-inspired Omega models are frequently replaced with non-Omega aftermarket options; original Omega strap confirms unmodified condition.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Seamaster 300 Heritage is immediately identified by its "lollipop" seconds hand and "broad arrow" hour and minute hands. Both are direct references to the 1957 CK 2913. A standard pointed seconds hand or non-broad-arrow hands indicate the hands are not original.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

Confusion with Seamaster 300m Professional (Diver 300m)

  • The Diver 300m has a different case shape, different hands, and no broad arrow design -- it is a completely different reference family
  • The Seamaster 300 Heritage has more restrained, vintage-inspired proportions compared to the contemporary Diver 300m

This is more frequent as an honest confusion than a deliberate misrepresentation. Verify the model name on the dial -- "Seamaster" text alone is not sufficient to identify the reference.

LOW

Non-original lollipop seconds hand substitution

  • Pointed seconds hand where a circular disc should be
  • Disc present but lume color or disc size does not match the OEM specification

Dial variants by era

EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2014 to presentBlack dial with warm beige lume that evokes the aged tritium of the 1957 original. The lume tone is deliberately vintage-inspired, not a defect. Grey and olive green variants are also produced. The Seamaster wave decoration at 6 o'clock is present on all versions.
  • Lollipop seconds hand: a circular disc at the tip rather than a pointed terminus
  • Broad arrow hour and minute hands: wide triangular-tipped hands used on military-specification watches
  • Warm beige/ivory lume on indices and hands -- designed to read as period-correct
  • "Seamaster" text at 12 with wave decoration at 6
  • Unidirectional rotating bezel with black aluminum insert (not ceramic on base models)
  • "300 m / 1000 ft" depth rating on bezel or dial
2018 to present (specialty colorways)Grey-dial and olive green variants introduced alongside the standard black, targeting military-watch collectors. Bronze-case variant released 2019 with warm-toned dial and aged-look lume.
  • Grey dial shows the same Broad Arrow and lollipop hands but with a lighter base color
  • Olive green dial evokes military-field watch styling; paired with NATO strap at retail
  • Bronze case variant has a warm brown/copper tone that darkens with wear; caseback is stainless steel
  • All specialty colorways use the same cal. 8400/8401 movement as the standard black-dial variant

Lollipop seconds hand

Original: The circular disc at the tip of the seconds hand is the most distinctive element of this reference. The disc is filled with lume material matching the index lume color. The hand stem and disc should be in the same metal as the case.

Replacement tells
  • Standard pointed seconds hand -- not original to this reference
  • Circular disc present but lume color different from the indices
  • Disc not centered on the hand stem at the tip -- alignment is precise on genuine examples
Broad arrow hands

Original: Hour and minute hands have the broad arrow military specification: wide bodies with a triangular arrowhead at the tip. On steel case versions, the hands are polished stainless. The lume fill inside the hands is rectangular and wide, matching the broad arrow geometry.

Replacement tells
  • Non-arrow-shaped hands -- alpha, baton, or other Omega hand styles are not original to this reference
  • Hands in wrong metal finish for the case -- yellow-tone hands on a steel case indicate a swap
  • Lume fill inside hands is a different color than the dial indices
Aluminum bezel insert

Original: Base models use an aluminum bezel insert, not ceramic. Aluminum is lighter, shows a slightly different surface texture than ceramic, and the 12 o'clock pip area is known to fade with UV exposure over time. This fading is an expected characteristic of aluminum, not a defect.

Replacement tells
  • Ceramic insert on a base-model watch sold as having an aluminum insert -- different variant
  • Bezel numeral printing on the insert looks screen-printed rather than engraved and filled
  • Pip at 12 shows incorrect lume overflow or misalignment
Crown

Original: Screw-down crown for 300m water resistance. The crown has "Seamaster" engraving on the face. Screw engagement should be smooth with progressive resistance before locking down.

Replacement tells
  • Crown without "Seamaster" text -- generic Omega crowns are used as replacements in non-authorized service
  • Crown spins freely without engaging the screw-down threads correctly
  • Crown sitting proud of the case even in the locked position

Case back markings

toggle
2014 to present
  • "Seamaster" text engraved
  • Wave decoration matching the dial and Seamaster heritage
  • "300 m / 1000 ft" depth rating
  • Caliber 8400 or 8401 (8401 is COSC certified)
  • Case reference and serial number
  • "OMEGA" and "SWISS MADE" designation
  • Solid caseback -- no display caseback on this reference

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. 8400/8401 is an in-house Omega movement with a co-axial escapement and a silicon balance spring for anti-magnetic performance. The silicon spring has a characteristic blue-silver appearance -- if the movement is open, it is visible as a flat, non-metallic spring.
  • Power reserve is approximately 60 hours. The automatic winding is bidirectional. A watch that stops reliably after 24 hours on the wrist has a winding efficiency issue.
  • The co-axial escapement applies: no tick rhythm at any observation speed is the expectation. The broad arrow hands and lollipop seconds should move as smoothly as any other co-axial Omega.
  • The 300m water resistance requires the screw-down crown to be fully engaged. A crown that does not lock down correctly has a thread or gasket problem and the water resistance is compromised regardless of what the caseback states.
