On-the-fly February correction and fumé dial gradient authenticate the Moser Endeavour Perpetual
- Perpetual calendar complications require testing across month and year boundaries; verify the mechanism advances correctly
- H. Moser fumé dials have a characteristic gradient that counterfeits render as flat color
- HMC 341 movement is unique to Moser; verify movement signing and power reserve specification
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| dial | Fumé dial and perpetual calendar display | Fumé (smoked) gradient dial; color deepens toward the edges with translucent center; perpetual calendar displays (day, date, month, leap year) in subdials or apertures; "H. Moser & Cie." signed; perpetual designation on dial | Flat uniform color without smoked gradient; missing or non-functioning calendar displays; Moser signing absent; "Perpetual" claimed without functional calendar |
| movement | HMC 341 in-house perpetual | "HMC 341" (or current variant designation) engraved; 7-day power reserve; perpetual calendar module advances correctly through month changes; "H. Moser & Cie." signed on bridge | Base calibre with perpetual module attached; perpetual mechanism requiring manual correction at month end; incorrect power reserve specification; missing signing |
| caseback | Exhibition caseback and movement view | Exhibition caseback shows full decorated movement; power reserve indicator showing 7 days; serial number on movement matches documentation | Solid caseback on exhibition variant; movement visible but undecorated; serial mismatch |
| case | Endeavour case proportions | 40mm or 42mm diameter per variant; corrector pushers flush with case for calendar resetting; crown at 3 | Correctors not recessed or not engaging calendar; incorrect diameter; crown position inconsistent with Endeavour design |
- Strap is commonly replaced; original Moser strap has proprietary clasp with "H. Moser & Cie." stamping.
- Perpetual calendar should be tested through a complete year-cycle to verify all month transitions.
Authentication guide
The Endeavour Perpetual Calendar is Moser's most complication-rich Endeavour piece: perpetual calendar in a minimal fumé presentation. The perpetual calendar indications use peripheral disc displays rather than sub-dials -- the dial appears sparse despite carrying a full perpetual calendar. Cal. HMC 800 is the in-house perpetual movement.
