Lange finishing is the authentication. The hand-engraved balance cock is unique to each watch, so two examples with identical engraving cannot both be real.
Known issues in the market
- Replica Lange watches are usually undone by the movement rather than the dial. The German silver three-quarter plate, the hand-engraved balance cock and the screwed gold chatons are expensive to imitate and rarely attempted properly.
- The 1815 name covers a wide family. Up/Down, Flyback, Chronograph, Annual Calendar and Rattrapante all share the dial language and none of them is this reference.
- Since 2025 the 1815 also comes in 34mm running the L152.1 with 72 hours. This is the 38.5mm on the L051.1 with 55 hours, so the size and the reserve should agree.
