German watches

References in the Grail Atlas catalog made in Germany.

German watchmaking in the catalog is, almost entirely, Glashütte. A. Lange & Söhne and Glashütte Original, alongside several brands not yet in the catalog, operate manufactures within a two-kilometre radius of the same Saxon village, the legacy of Ferdinand Adolph Lange founding the trade there in 1845 and of the GDR-era state combine that consolidated the surviving makers after WWII. Nomos is the outlier: born in 1990 at reunification, now the largest volume producer in Glashütte, with a design language that broke entirely from the pre-war aesthetic tradition.
