Authentication

ETA 2892-based entry UN; enamel dial variants are the most collectible and require chip inspection.

Known issues in the market
  • Anchor logo must be precisely centered and correctly proportioned; counterfeit logos are off-center or incorrectly scaled.
  • Cloisonne enamel dials chip at the edges; inspect under magnification around the perimeter.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Classico Automatic 40mm is UN's most restrained dress piece: Roman numerals, leather strap, slim profile. Cal. UN-815 is an ETA 2892 base with UN finishing and added silicon components. The anchor logo on the crown and movement is the house mark, and the enamel dial on some variants is the premium authentication target.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

Replicas of the Classico Auto 40mm are uncommon. The main risk is a plain ETA 2892 movement inside a genuine Classico case after an unauthorized service.

  • Rotor without anchor decoration visible through caseback
  • Dial text with blurring or inconsistent weight under loupe
  • Roman numeral proportions inconsistent with known genuine examples

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2015 to presentCurrent production Classico Auto 40mm in steel. Silver or white dial with Roman numerals. Some variants feature hand-painted enamel dials.
  • Roman numeral hours in the UN typeface
  • No date window -- the Classico Auto 40mm is time-only in this configuration
  • "Ulysse Nardin" text on the upper dial
  • Anchor logo at 6 o'clock or lower dial
  • Slender leaf or dauphine hands in a finish matching the case metal
  • On enamel variants: slightly convex dial surface with characteristic enamel depth and translucency

Service part flags

Enamel dial (on enamel variants)

Original: Hand-painted enamel dials on some Classico variants have a characteristic convex surface and depth that cannot be reproduced by printing or lacquer. The surface should feel smooth and have an almost glass-like finish.

Replacement tells
  • Flat dial surface on a stated enamel variant -- enamel is inherently slightly domed
  • Printing visible under loupe rather than the layered depth of true enamel
  • Dial with any cracking or crazing inconsistent with the production era
Crown

Original: Anchor logo engraved on the crown end face. Non-screw-down crown on this dress variant; it should pull smoothly to the two time-setting positions.

Replacement tells
  • Crown without anchor engraving
  • Crown with incorrect profile or finish level
  • Crown that does not pull to distinct positions for winding and time-setting
Movement via caseback

Original: Exhibition caseback on some variants displaying Cal. UN-815. The ETA 2892 base is refined with UN finishing; the anchor decoration on the rotor is the key identifier.

Replacement tells
  • Rotor without anchor decoration on a stated genuine example
  • Movement finishing level inconsistent with UN specification (unfinished ETA rotor)
  • Movement layout inconsistent with ETA 2892 base geometry

Case back markings

toggle
2015 to present
  • Exhibition caseback (on open-back variants) with Cal. UN-815 visible
  • Anchor-decorated rotor
  • "Ulysse Nardin" text on the movement
  • Reference 3203-136-2 and serial number on the case band
  • Steel hallmark on the case band

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. UN-815 is built on an ETA 2892-A2 base with UN finishing. The rotor should carry the anchor decoration. An unfinished ETA rotor indicates the movement was not finished to UN specification.
  • Power reserve is approximately 42 hours. Stopping well before 35 hours on a fully wound example warrants service.
  • Silicon components added to the UN-815 include the escape wheel and lever on some versions. Their presence (flat dark non-reflective components) is a UN-specific tell.
