The 2018 ceramic Seamaster 300M has no helium escape valve; any 2018-generation example with a helium escape valve at 10 has incorrect case components, likely sourced from the previous steel generation.

Known issues in the market
  • Helium escape valve presence on the 2018 ceramic generation is a reliable indicator of case-component mixing or fraud.
  • The wavy-pattern dial is machine-engraved; counterfeit dials are printed and appear flat under raking light.
  • The crown operates without unscrewing on the 2018 model; a crown that requires unscrewing to operate indicates a pre-2018 case.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Ceramic cases are nearly impossible to scratch but chip at sharp edges; inspect the case-band edges and bezel edge for chips before purchase.
  • The rubber strap on the 2018 generation is Omega-specific; any non-Omega strap is a cosmetic deviation but does not affect movement or case authenticity.

Last reviewed June 2026

The 2018 Seamaster 300M redesign brought a new dial with horizontal wave-pattern texture, ceramic bezel insert, and cal. 8800 Master Chronometer. Generation context: the pre-2018 Seamaster 300m (references 2523.80 through 212.30 era) used aluminum bezel inserts, a wave-pattern dial without the horizontal texture depth of the current generation, and earlier Co-Axial calibers (2500-series) without METAS Master Chronometer certification. The 2018 generation is the first Seamaster 300m with METAS certification and the ceramic bezel. The wave-pattern dial texture and the OMEGA crown logo sharpness are the fastest visual checks. This generation is produced in high volume and is faked in volume.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
HIGH RISK

Reproduction with flat wave pattern and soft OMEGA logo

  • Wave texture flat or printed-looking rather than machined
  • OMEGA crown logo has soft or blurry edges
  • Lume plots inconsistent in color or shape between hour markers
  • Bezel insert has incorrect surface texture -- too glossy or matte relative to genuine ceramic

The 2018 Seamaster 300M is one of the higher-volume reproduction targets in the Omega lineup. The wave-pattern dial and OMEGA logo are the two fastest rejection tests.

Dial variants by era

EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2018 to present (cal. 8800)Wave-pattern horizontal texture dial in blue or black. Applied luminescent hour indices with a skeleton or sword-shaped hands. Large date window at 6 o'clock on some variants. Ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel with luminescent pip. The helium escape valve at 10 o'clock is a standard feature.
  • Horizontal wave-pattern dial texture -- the correct texture has specific depth and regularity
  • Ceramic bezel insert with tachymeter or minute scale
  • OMEGA crown logo above 6 o'clock, sharply cut
  • Applied luminescent indices in correct positions
  • Helium escape valve at 10 o'clock
  • "Co-Axial Master Chronometer" designation

Service part flags

toggle
Wave-pattern dial

Original: The horizontal wave pattern is machined or stamped into the dial with consistent depth and specific proportions. The waves should have clean sidewall definition under 5x magnification. Blue dials have a specific Omega palette -- neither too purple nor too cyan.

Replacement tells
  • Wave texture shallow or flat -- appears as a printed pattern rather than a three-dimensional texture
  • Wave spacing inconsistent across the dial field
  • Blue color off-palette -- too purple, too cyan, or too bright relative to documented Omega color standard
Ceramic bezel insert

Original: Black ceramic insert with correct scale. Sits flush with the bezel surround. 120 click positions. Luminescent pip at 12 centered and filled correctly.

Replacement tells
  • Insert sits above the surround -- any proud fit is incorrect
  • Fewer or more than 120 click positions
  • Pip off-center or with lume overflow
Helium escape valve

Original: Small valve at 10 o'clock. On genuine examples the valve has an Omega logo engraved on the crown face and correct knurling. The valve threads out for gas release during saturation diving decompression.

Replacement tells
  • Valve crown without Omega logo
  • Valve knurling too coarse or too fine
  • Valve does not thread correctly -- stuck or spins freely without engaging

Case back markings

toggle
2018 to present
  • Caliber 8800 designation
  • "CO-AXIAL MASTER CHRONOMETER" text
  • "300 M / 1000 FT" water resistance
  • Seahorse medallion on the solid caseback
  • Case reference and serial number
  • "OMEGA" and "SWISS MADE"

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. 8800 is a Master Chronometer with anti-magnetic silicon balance spring. Power reserve is approximately 55 hours. Bidirectional automatic winding.
  • The 8800 uses a distinctive three-quarter plate architecture: viewed through a display caseback, the movement shows a large plate covering approximately three-quarters of the movement surface with fewer visible bridges than a conventional Swiss construction. This architecture is visible through the caseback of some 8800-equipped watches and is unlike the bridge-separated layout of most ETA or generic movements. A conventional bridge layout inside a stated 8800 case indicates a movement swap.
  • METAS Master Chronometer certification requires the movement to resist magnetic fields to 15,000 gauss. This is a documented test result, verifiable via Omega serial lookup, and not a claim that can be applied retroactively to pre-2018 Seamaster movements.
  • The co-axial escapement geometry applies. This is not a visible check from outside the case, but a watchmaker report should confirm caliber identity.
  • The screw-down crown must be fully engaged for the 300m water resistance. A crown that does not thread correctly or sits proud when screwed down has a gasket or thread issue.
