Authentication

The Globemaster is a niche reference with low counterfeit pressure; the pie-pan dial surface condition and "claws" case integration are the primary authentication anchors.

Known issues in the market
  • The pie-pan dial (raised polished center with angled chapter ring) is a demanding surface; any scratch on the polished center is immediately visible and difficult to repair without re-polishing.
  • METAS "Master Chronometer" certification is verifiable via serial number at omegawatches.com; the Cal. 8901 with annual calendar is the only correct movement for this reference.
  • Applied star at 6 o'clock (Constellation brand symbol) must be a raised, crisp metal piece; a printed or flat star indicates a non-genuine dial.
  • "Claws" case with integrated lugs has a specific proportion; lookalike cases from other Constellation references lack the correct claw geometry.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Pie-pan dial polishing is not serviceable without resurfacing; a heavily scratched center dome is a condition defect that is difficult to remedy.
  • Annual calendar mechanisms require watchmaker setting after battery replacement on quartz variants; verify Cal. 8901 is correctly set and advancing.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Globemaster is Omega's first Master Chronometer watch and a design tribute to the 1950s Constellation. The "pie pan" domed dial, fluted bezel, and annual calendar complication define it. The main misrepresentation risk is variant confusion -- annual calendar vs. standard, or bezel material (white gold vs. steel).

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

Variant misrepresentation -- annual calendar vs. standard

  • Dial shows an annual calendar subdial on a watch with a caseback showing cal. 8901 (no annual calendar)
  • Month subdial absent on a watch sold as an annual calendar Globemaster
  • Caliber on caseback does not match the stated variant
LOW

Bezel material misrepresentation

  • White gold bezel on a watch without documentation confirming the white gold reference
  • Bezel has different weight and magnetic response than expected for stated material

The Globemaster is not a significant fake target. The risks are variant confusion and bezel material misrepresentation, not outright counterfeiting.

Dial variants by era

EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2015 to presentDomed "pie pan" inspired dial with a raised outer ring -- an architectural tribute to the 1952 Constellation. Blue fluted-style dial is the most recognized; silver and green variants also produced. The annual calendar function displays month on a subdial and date via pointer. The fluted bezel echoes Constellation heritage.
  • Domed dial with raised outer ring -- the "pie pan" step is the tribute element
  • Fluted bezel in stainless or white gold -- fluting is the same pattern as the Constellation
  • Annual calendar subdial showing month, with a date pointer or window
  • "Globemaster" text on dial
  • "Master Chronometer" certification text
  • Constellation observatory star motif on caseback
2015 to present (annual calendar variant)Globemaster Annual Calendar with cal. 8922 or 8923, adding annual calendar display (month aperture at 3 o'clock, date at 6 o'clock). Visually similar to the standard but with two apertures on the dial.
  • Month aperture visible at 3 o'clock in addition to date display
  • Cal. 8922 (non-COSC) or cal. 8923 (COSC) rather than standard 8901
  • "Annual Calendar" text on the dial at 6 o'clock position
  • Two-aperture layout distinguishes it from the standard single-date model

Service part flags

toggle
Annual calendar mechanism

Original: The annual calendar advances automatically through all months of different lengths, requiring only a February correction. The mechanism requires specific service knowledge. Incorrect reassembly produces a calendar that jumps incorrectly at month transitions or advances erroneously.

Replacement tells
  • Calendar advances incorrectly at month end -- advances twice or skips a day
  • Month subdial and date indicator disagree by one or more positions
  • Calendar requires manual correction more often than the once-per-year February norm
Fluted bezel

Original: The fluted bezel on steel case Globemasters is in stainless steel. White gold bezel variants are a separate reference with documentation in the box and a premium price. Both are correct -- the bezel metal must match the stated reference.

Replacement tells
  • White gold bezel on a watch sold without supporting documentation
  • Fluting appears machined at incorrect pitch -- finer or coarser than the Omega standard
  • Bezel finish inconsistent with the rest of the case finishing
Crown

Original: Push-pull crown with Omega logo. The Globemaster does not use a screw-down crown. Gasket seal provides the water resistance. Crown is proportional to the 39mm case.

Replacement tells
  • Screw-down crown on a Globemaster -- incorrect for this reference
  • Crown too large or too small relative to case proportions
  • Omega logo absent or poorly stamped

Case back markings

toggle
2015 to present
  • Constellation observatory motif with "Globemaster" text
  • Deep engraving on the observatory -- this is a Constellation DNA element, same as vintage pieces
  • "Master Chronometer" certification designation
  • Caliber 8922, 8923, or 8901 depending on the specific variant
  • Case reference and serial number
  • "OMEGA" and "SWISS MADE" designations

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. 8922 and 8923 are the annual calendar variants. Cal. 8901 appears in Globemaster variants without the annual calendar. Verify the caliber on the caseback matches the dial function -- an annual calendar dial on an 8901 movement is incorrect assembly.
  • The annual calendar displays via a retrograde-style pointer (on some configurations) or a subdial with a date window. The advance happens at midnight on the last day of each month. Testing across a month-end boundary is the definitive service verification.
  • The Co-Axial escapement applies to all Master Chronometer Globemaster calibers. Smooth, tick-free operation through the caseback on display-back variants is a baseline expectation. Any tick rhythm or audible escapement noise is a rejection signal.
  • Power reserve is approximately 55 hours for cal. 8922/8923. The bidirectional automatic rotor winds effectively with normal wrist motion -- a watch that consistently stops after a day on the wrist has a winding issue.
