The Master Ultra Thin Moon 39 adds a three-dimensional moon phase display to the thin-dress platform; secondary prices are supported by growing demand for moon phase watches in the contemporary collector market.

Editorial estimate, 2026 Q2. Actual prices vary by condition, date, and box/papers status.

Authentication

The moon phase must match the actual current moon; any offset of more than two days indicates the watch has not been set or serviced correctly.

Known issues in the market
  • Moon phase that is more than two days off from the actual moon has not been set correctly and may not have been serviced.
  • The moon disc must show two moons with one correctly positioned behind the aperture.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Moon disc replacement is uncommon but possible; verify the moon disc matches the two-moon JLC specification.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Master Ultra Thin Moon 39 is JLC's thinnest dress complication: an ultra-slim 39mm watch with a moonphase display at 6 o'clock and a total case thickness of 9.2mm. The case thinness and the moonphase display quality are the primary authentication points. Ultra-thin movements require careful handling and service irregularities are more consequential than on conventional-thickness watches.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
HIGH RISK

Case thicker than 9.2mm

  • Case that appears or measures thicker than 9.2mm -- indicates a different (thicker) movement has been fitted
  • Case proportions inconsistent with the ultra-thin aesthetic when held on edge
MEDIUM

Flat or printed moonphase sky

  • Blue sky with no depth or translucency
  • Moonphase aperture without the characteristic enamel shimmer under directional light

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2020 to present (current Q1368420)Silver or blue sunburst dial with applied baton indices. Moonphase aperture at 6 o'clock with blue enamel sky. Date display in sector or aperture format above the moonphase.
  • Ultra-thin case: 9.2mm total case thickness, measurably thin when held on edge
  • Moonphase at 6 o'clock with deep blue sky and two moon disc images
  • Date indication integrated near the moonphase display
  • Applied polished baton indices, no Arabic numerals
  • "MASTER ULTRA THIN" and "MOON" text on dial
  • Slim crown with no screw-down feature -- appropriate for the dress-watch character of this reference

Service part flags

Ultra-thin movement (Cal. 925)

Original: Cal. 925: 3.3mm movement height. Ultra-thin movements require specialist service; the mainspring barrel and bridge tolerances are at the practical limit for hand-finishing. Any mainspring that is slightly overwound can cause increased power reserve but also higher wear rate on ultra-thin gear trains.

Replacement tells
  • Case thickness measurably greater than 9.2mm -- a thicker movement has been substituted
  • Power reserve significantly shorter than the rated 43 hours from full wind (indicates mainspring wear)
  • Movement visible through caseback that does not read as Cal. 925 -- the ultra-thin architecture is visually distinctive
Moonphase display

Original: Blue enamel sky with two moon disc images. The moon disc rotates to show the correct phase. The enamel should appear deep and three-dimensional.

Replacement tells
  • Blue sky that appears flat or printed
  • Moonphase disc not aligned with the actual current lunar phase
  • Moon imagery that is coarser under 5x magnification than the genuine JLC standard

Case back markings

toggle
All Q1368420 production
  • Exhibition caseback with Cal. 925 engraved on movement plate
  • "JAEGER-LECOULTRE" and serial number on caseback rim
  • Reference Q1368420 on caseback or between lugs
  • No water resistance rating -- ultra-thin watches have minimal gasket sealing

Movement tells

toggle
  • Ultra-thin movements should only be serviced by specialists trained on JLC ultra-thin calibers; incorrect reassembly of a 3.3mm movement causes functional failure, not just aesthetic damage
  • Post-service case thickness should be measured -- incorrect assembly can increase total height above 9.2mm
