Authentication

Verify Heuer 02 column-wheel through caseback and inspect all rider tabs for security and uniform positioning.

Known issues in the market
  • Rider tabs (vintage-correct Autavia detail) must all be secure; loose tabs are a service item.
  • Same Heuer 02 authentication concerns as the Monaco apply here.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Autavia Chronograph Heuer 02 is the chronograph sibling to the Autavia GMT, sharing the 42mm Autavia case but pairing it with the in-house Heuer 02 caliber instead of the Calibre 7. The exhibition caseback showing the Heuer 02 column wheel is the primary authentication check, exactly as on the Monaco and Carrera Heuer 02 variants.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
MEDIUM

ETA 7750-based replicas placed in an Autavia-style case.

  • Cam-switching lever through caseback rather than column wheel
  • Sub-register layout inconsistent with the 3 and 9 configuration of the genuine Autavia Chronograph
  • Bezel with a ceramic bicolor insert -- the Autavia Chronograph uses a steel bezel, not the GMT's ceramic bicolor bezel

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2021 to present (black)Black dial with Arabic numerals, chronograph sub-registers at 3 and 9, and a date window at 6. The Autavia case is round with a steel bezel, distinct from the bicolor ceramic bezel of the GMT.
  • Black dial with Arabic numeral indices matching the Autavia design language
  • Sub-registers at 3 (running seconds) and 9 (30-minute counter)
  • Steel bezel on the chronograph variant -- not the bicolor ceramic bezel of the GMT
  • Flush pump pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock
  • Exhibition caseback as standard
2021 to present (blue, green)Blue and green dial variants. Same case and Heuer 02 movement.
  • Dial color variants share the same sub-register layout and Arabic numeral design
  • Steel bezel consistent across all Autavia Chronograph Heuer 02 variants

Heuer 02 movement (column wheel)

Original: Same Cal. Heuer 02 as the Monaco and Carrera 39mm. Column-wheel, vertical clutch, 28,800bph, 80-hour power reserve. The column wheel is visible through the exhibition caseback.

Replacement tells
  • Cam-switching mechanism visible through the caseback instead of a column wheel
  • Power reserve depleting in under 48 hours from full wind
  • Generic rotor profile rather than the Heuer 02 integrated mass design

Case back markings

toggle
2021 to present
  • Exhibition (sapphire) caseback with perimeter engraving
  • "HEUER 02" on the rotor or movement plating
  • "TAG HEUER AUTAVIA" reference identification on the perimeter
  • Serial number on the case midband

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. Heuer 02, 28,800bph, 80-hour power reserve. Same as the Monaco and Carrera Heuer 02 variants. All verification methods apply equally.
  • Column wheel directly visible through the caseback; verify it steps one position per pusher activation.
  • Vertical clutch: chronograph seconds hand advances without tick-back at start.
