The True Thinline Automatic must measure its stated sub-5mm thickness; any thicker example has a different or incorrect movement installed.

Known issues in the market
  • The ETA 2671 micro-rotor is correct for this reference; any rotor other than a micro-rotor through the caseback indicates a movement swap.
  • Sub-5mm case thickness is the design specification; measure with calipers if in doubt.

The True Thinline is defined by its ultra-thin solid ceramic case. Weight is the primary field test; ceramic at this volume is measurably lighter than steel equivalents.

Known reproduction risks

Not a common counterfeit target. The ceramic monocoque case construction is expensive and technically demanding.

  • Replicas use ceramic-coated metal; the resulting piece is heavier and the coating chips at lug edges under normal use
  • Dial on replicas shows coarser text; the "True Thinline" designation is often misaligned or in incorrect font weight

Hold in one hand and a comparably sized steel dress watch in the other. Genuine True Thinline will feel noticeably lighter.

Replacement tells
  • Any visible seam or join between lug and case body is wrong
  • Polished finish on a matte-spec variant suggests refinishing, which removes material and can affect fit of crystal or caseback
Crystal

Original: Flat sapphire crystal, AR-coated. Sits flush with case edge.

Replacement tells
  • Mineral glass replacement is visibly less sharp at edges and will scratch under a light key test
  • Crystal sitting proud of the case edge suggests incorrect thickness

  • "Swiss Made" and water resistance rating (typically 30M)
  • Some variants use a screw-in caseback; others are snap-fit into the ceramic body

Movement tells

  • Movement is ETA 2892-A2 or equivalent slim automatic; correct for the case thickness constraint.
  • The True Thinline uses a thin rotor; a standard-height rotor will not fit and is a clear sign of an incorrect movement swap.
  • Winding efficiency is lower than on a standard rotor; expect longer full-wind time from a flat wrist position.
