The Globemaster Annual Calendar has a specific reference number distinguishing it from the non-calendar Globemaster; verify the reference before purchase and confirm METAS caseback certification.

Known issues in the market
  • Non-calendar Globemasters are sold as Annual Calendar variants; the reference number on the caseback is the only reliable way to confirm the annual calendar complication.
  • The pie-pan dial is specific to the Globemaster and distinguishes it from flat-dialed Constellation variants; any Constellation with a flat dial is not a Globemaster.
  • METAS certification is required on Cal. 8922; verify the caseback stamp.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Annual calendar Globemasters are occasionally advertised without confirmation of the annual calendar function; test the calendar correction by advancing the date through a month-end cycle.
  • Integrated bracelets on Constellation-family watches are occasionally swapped to non-Omega bracelets; confirm the bracelet clasp is Omega-signed.

The Globemaster Annual Calendar combines the domed Pie Pan-tribute dial and Constellation fluted bezel with an annual calendar complication using cal. 8922. The month subdial at 3 o'clock and date display distinguish it from the standard Globemaster. Calendar accuracy across a month-end transition is the definitive service verification.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

Standard Globemaster (no annual calendar) sold as the annual calendar variant

  • Month aperture absent -- the standard Globemaster has no month display
  • "Annual Calendar" text absent on the dial
  • Caseback shows cal. 8901 rather than 8922 -- different movements for the two variants

The Globemaster Annual Calendar is not a significant outright fake target. Variant misrepresentation within the Globemaster family is the primary risk.

Annual calendar mechanism

Original: The annual calendar advances automatically through 30- and 31-day months. A correctly functioning mechanism requires manual correction only once per year at the end of February. The month disc and date hand should advance synchronously and in correct alignment.

Replacement tells
  • Calendar requires manual correction at month ends other than February -- incorrect advance mechanism
  • Month disc and date indicator disagree by one position
  • Calendar jumps erratically at month end -- the cam or detent system needs service
Fluted ceramic bezel

Original: The Globemaster uses a fluted ceramic bezel -- a precision-machined ceramic with the same wave fluting pattern as the Constellation heritage. The fluting depth and pitch are specific to Omega production. Ceramic is harder and more scratch-resistant than steel.

Replacement tells
  • Steel fluted bezel where ceramic is correct -- lighter weight and shows superficial scratches
  • Fluting pitch inconsistent with the Omega-spec pattern
  • Bezel shows chips or fractures from incorrect tool use during removal

Case back markings

toggle
2016 to present
  • Caliber 8922 designation
  • Constellation observatory motif with Globemaster text
  • "CO-AXIAL MASTER CHRONOMETER" text
  • "100 M / 330 FT" water resistance
  • Case reference and serial number
  • "OMEGA" and "SWISS MADE"

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. 8922 is an annual calendar Master Chronometer. Power reserve is 60 hours with bidirectional automatic winding.
  • Testing the annual calendar across a month-end transition (advancing the date to the last day of a 30-day month and verifying it jumps to the 1st correctly) is the definitive calendar function check. This takes patience but eliminates calendar mechanism doubts.
  • The co-axial escapement applies to all 8922 examples. The movement is not visible through a display caseback on standard production, but a watchmaker report should confirm caliber identity.
