Movement tells

  • The column-wheel engagement should feel precise and tactile: start is immediate, stop is clean, reset snaps all counters to zero. Any mushiness or delay is a worn column-wheel detent.
  • The L888.4 in chronograph configuration runs at 25,200 bph; a timing machine will confirm. A 28,800 bph read means a non-original movement.
  • Silicon hairspring provides magnetic resistance; the magnet test applies here too.
  • After service, verify the running seconds counter at 9 ticks clearly and the chronograph second hand (center) starts from exactly 12 o'clock.
  • The 64-hour power reserve is affected by the chronograph mechanism when running; normal reserve with chrono stopped is 64 hours, but running the chrono continuously reduces this. Significant deviation from spec suggests mainspring or barrel issues.
