Authentication

In-house FC-712 must be visible through the caseback; any ETA-architecture movement is a non-genuine swap.

Known issues in the market
  • The FC-712 bridge layout is distinct from ETA architecture; the caseback view is the primary movement check.
  • Moon phase disc must show the correct current phase; an incorrect moon phase indicates the disc has not been set or has slipped.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The FC Classics Moonphase runs the in-house FC-712 caliber; the moonphase display and multi-register layout are straightforward to authenticate against the original dial printing.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

FC is not a high-volume reproduction target; most misrepresentations involve condition washing rather than outright fakes.

  • Moonphase disc printing quality is the fastest check; originals are sharp at 10x magnification.
  • Case polishing that removes the brushed/polished contrast on the lugs indicates refinishing.

Grade B or lower examples with a "just serviced" claim warrant scrutiny of the service records.

Dial variants by era

  • Spade or baton hands indicate non-original service replacement
  • Lume that appears yellowed or filled unevenly

Original: Signed FC crown with knurled grip.

Replacement tells
  • Unsigned or smooth-edged crown suggests replacement

Case back markings

toggle
2015 to present

  • FC-712 caliber designation

  • Model reference and serial number
  • Sapphire display caseback standard on most variants

Movement tells

toggle
  • The FC-712 is a full in-house movement; the rotor carries the FC logo and is skeletonized on most variants.
  • Moonphase disc is driven by a dedicated wheel train; wheel count and finishing should match FC manufacture standards, not a generic ETA base.
  • A service-replaced movement that shows ETA bridges instead of FC-finished plates is a significant departure from original spec.
  • Signed rotor with Geneva wave decorating is the tell for original movement.
