The Reine de Naples 8967 is Breguet's most historically significant ladies reference, tracing to a commission by Caroline Murat; secondary prices are supported by the strong historical narrative and the oval case shape.

Authentication

Oval crystal must follow the case profile exactly; a round crystal in an oval case is an incorrect replacement.

Known issues in the market
  • The oval case shape is the defining authentication marker for the Reine de Naples family.
  • The guilloché dial authentication checks from other Breguet references apply identically.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Reine de Naples is Breguet's ladies collection, built on an oval case shape with an integrated bracelet. The case geometry and bracelet construction are the primary authentication points -- the oval case is specific to this line and the bracelet link construction is more complex than it appears.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
HIGH RISK

Incorrect oval case proportions

  • Case oval that is too round or too elongated compared to the known Reine de Naples geometry
  • Case-to-bracelet transition with a visible step
MEDIUM

Bracelet with lateral link play

  • Visible sideways movement between adjacent links when the bracelet is held flat
  • Link finish inconsistency under directional light

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
Current productionOval case with dial that fills the oval aperture. Guilloché or mother-of-pearl dial with Breguet Arabic numerals. Diamond-set bezel and/or bracelet on jeweled variants.
  • Oval case -- not round, not rectangular; the specific Reine de Naples oval proportion is consistent across the range
  • Dial fills the oval completely with guilloché or mother-of-pearl center
  • Breguet Arabic numerals at major hour positions
  • Blued steel Breguet hands
  • Integrated bracelet with polished and brushed links; specific link geometry that curves to follow the wrist

Service part flags

toggle
Integrated bracelet

Original: Polished and brushed 18k gold or stainless steel links. The bracelet curves in multiple planes and the link-to-link articulation is smooth with no lateral play.

Replacement tells
  • Lateral play at any link-to-link joint (genuine bracelet construction does not allow sideways movement between links)
  • Links with inconsistent finish quality -- all polished surfaces should have the same depth of polish and all brushed surfaces the same direction of grain
  • Aftermarket clasp that does not match the Breguet clasp profile
Oval case

Original: The oval case profile is machined to a specific proportion and the case-to-bracelet junction is seamless. Case flanks alternate between polished and brushed planes.

Replacement tells
  • Case with uniformly polished surfaces, no alternating satin planes
  • Case-to-bracelet junction that shows a visible step or gap
  • Oval proportions inconsistent with the known Reine de Naples geometry

Case back markings

toggle
All production
  • Solid or exhibition caseback with "BREGUET" and serial number
  • Cal. 537 or variant engraved on movement or caseback
  • Gold hallmarks and reference code on case flank or caseback

Movement tells

toggle
  • The oval case requires specific gaskets -- non-Breguet service using incorrect gaskets will not restore water resistance
  • Bracelet clasp should be inspected at every service; the integrated clasp is a high-wear component
