The peripheral tourbillon cage runs along the outer perimeter of the movement; verify it is at the dial periphery, not at center, and time it for exactly one revolution per minute.

Known issues in the market
  • Peripheral tourbillon at the dial periphery is the design identity; a center tourbillon is a different or non-genuine movement.
  • Tourbillon rotation rate must be exactly one revolution per minute; time it directly.

The Tourbillon WR uses the V-08T caliber with a peripheral one-minute tourbillon. A 39mm case in gold or platinum. Approximately 3 to 5 tourbillon examples are produced per year across all variants; provenance is non-negotiable.

Known reproduction risks

LOW

No known replica. The peripheral tourbillon design is mechanically unique to Voutilainen. Production is approximately 3 to 5 tourbillon examples per year; tracing provenance for any offered example is straightforward.

  • Any "Voutilainen tourbillon" with a central bridge over the cage is a different design or not genuine

Given the extremely limited production, request the original purchase documentation and confirm the serial number with Voutilainen directly before any transaction.

Tourbillon cage and peripheral track

Original: The peripheral tourbillon design means the cage travels around the outer edge of the movement without a central axis fixed at the top. The cage runs on a peripheral track. This design is mechanically distinct from central-axis tourbillons.

Replacement tells
  • Tourbillon cage with a fixed central staff (indicates a different design, not Voutilainen peripheral)
  • Cage rotation that pauses or is irregular
  • Peripheral track with visible wear marks from non-factory service

Case back markings

2014 to present
  • Individual serial number
  • "Voutilainen Tourbillon WR" designation
  • 750 or Pt case material mark

Movement tells

toggle
  • The peripheral tourbillon should complete one full revolution per minute, visible through the dial aperture; count the rotation to verify.
  • The power reserve should accurately reflect the winding state; with 60 hours of reserve, a fully wound watch should run for at least 58 hours.
  • Service on the V-08T requires Voutilainen atelier; no independent watchmaker should attempt the peripheral tourbillon mechanism.
