In-house Cal. UN-150 with silicon escapement; COSC chronometer certification on dial and in papers.

Known issues in the market
  • Silicon lever and escape wheel invisible externally but reflected in longer calibration stability; service records confirm genuine silicon components.
  • Crown locking ring must thread fully closed; any crown that will not lock in closed position indicates gasket or thread damage.

Last reviewed June 2026

The Marine Torpilleur is UN's everyday Marine piece, built on the in-house UN-150 with silicon components. The anchor logo is the house symbol and appears on the movement, dial, and crown; any example missing it on all three surfaces has had parts changed.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
MEDIUM

Replicas of Marine UN pieces exist but are less common than replicas of Rolex or AP. The anchor logo detail and silicon movement components are the key functional tells.

  • Silicon escape components absent from the movement visible through caseback
  • Anchor logo on crown absent or poorly executed
  • Dial text with blurring or inconsistent character weight under loupe
  • Case finishing that lacks crisp transitions between brushed and polished surfaces

The greatest practical risk is a correctly cased example with a non-original movement. The silicon escapement visible through the caseback is the most reliable check without disassembly.

Service part flags

Crown

Original: Screw-down crown with an anchor logo engraved on the end face. The crown screws down firmly against the case and the threading should engage smoothly without forcing.

Replacement tells
  • Crown without anchor engraving on the end face
  • Crown that does not screw down, or screws down with excessive resistance indicating thread damage or wrong-size replacement
  • Crown diameter or shape inconsistent with the Marine Torpilleur specification
Caseback

Original: Exhibition caseback displaying Cal. UN-150. The movement should show the anchor decoration on the rotor or movement plate, and the silicon escape wheel and lever are visible as flat, non-reflective dark silicon components.

Replacement tells
  • Movement visible through caseback without the anchor decoration on the rotor
  • Conventional metallic escape wheel in place of flat silicon components
  • Movement layout inconsistent with UN-150 bridge geometry
Dial anchor logo

Original: Anchor logo printed or applied at 6 o'clock. On genuine examples the logo is crisp and consistent in line weight. On blue and black dials the anchor is typically in a contrasting color or metallic finish.

Replacement tells
  • Anchor that is blurred or inconsistent in line weight under loupe
  • Anchor logo absent on a stated genuine example
  • Anchor in a finish inconsistent with the known dial color configuration

Case back markings

toggle
2019 to present
  • Exhibition caseback with Cal. UN-150 movement visible
  • "Ulysse Nardin" on the movement rotor or plate
  • Anchor decoration on the rotor
  • Silicon escape wheel and pallet lever visible as flat dark components
  • Reference and serial number engraved on the case band between the lugs
  • 750 gold or steel hallmark per the case metal

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. UN-150 uses silicon escape wheel and lever. Under magnification these appear as flat, non-reflective dark blue-black components. Conventional metal escape components are immediately identifiable as non-original.
  • The movement beats at 28,800bph with a 60-hour power reserve. A fully wound Marine Torpilleur stopping in under 50 hours warrants service.
  • Silicon components in UN movements are not serviceable by general watchmakers; they require UN-specific parts. Any service documentation showing conventional escapement replacement should be investigated.
  • The bidirectional rotor should spin freely with no perceptible lateral play. Rotor play indicates worn bearing and is a service item.
