A mechanical alarm is expensive to build and almost never faked. If the alarm actually rings on time and the reserve disc at 3 responds, most questions are already answered.

Known issues in the market
  • The Advisor is the only Tudor with this complication, and it ran for a limited period. Watches described loosely as a "Tudor alarm" without the reference are worth pinning down.
  • The alarm has its own mainspring barrel and its own winding. A watch whose alarm will not sound after being wound is a service issue rather than a quirk, and on this module service is not cheap.
  • Case construction is titanium middle with steel bezel and back. A listing describing it as all-steel or all-titanium has it wrong either way.
AreaWhat to checkWhat is correctRed flag
dialAlarm on/off aperture at 9A window that visibly changes state when the pusher at 8 is operatedA printed marker that never changes, or an aperture that sticks between states
dialAlarm power-reserve disc at 3A disc that climbs as the alarm barrel is wound and falls after the alarm sounds. It is independent of the main going trainA disc that tracks the main power reserve, or one that does not move at all
movementAlarm function under testSet, armed and left to run, the alarm rings at the set time with a clear mechanical buzz against the casebackSilence, or a faint sound suggesting the hammer is not reaching the gong
caseCase materials and pusher42mm, titanium case middle against a steel bezel and caseback, with the distinctively shaped alarm pusher at 8 and 100m water resistanceA uniform case colour throughout, or a plain round pusher
Common legitimate replacements
  • Straps and bracelets are consumables; Tudor supplied this reference on both, so either can be original.
  • The alarm module is Tudor-specific work. Ask who serviced it rather than only when, because a general watchmaker may not have touched the alarm train at all.
Expert resources: Monochrome, aBlogtoWatch and SJX all published hands-on coverage of the Heritage Advisor with the specification block and clear photographs of the alarm indications. Tudor’s own site keeps a tutorial on operating a watch alarm.
