Authentication

Verify COSC text on the dial only if the chronometer version is claimed; non-certified variants do not have COSC printed.

Known issues in the market
  • Tissot offers the Gentleman with and without COSC certification; a seller claiming chronometer certification must be verified by the presence of COSC on the dial.
  • The Silicium designation indicates a silicon hairspring; this is not visible to the naked eye but is relevant for long-term accuracy and anti-magnetic performance.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium is Tissot's slim dress-sport piece. Its 11.5mm height is thinner than it appears due to the case architecture. The silicon hairspring variant (Silicium) should be noted on the dial; any example claiming to be the Silicium variant without that text is not correct.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

The Gentleman is not a significant replica target at its price point.

  • "SILICIUM" text omitted on replica dials
  • Case finishing coarser, with brushed and polished areas blending into each other

Movement tells

  • The Silicium silicon hairspring is visible under a loupe as a blue-tinted flat spiral. A conventional steel hairspring appears silver and wavy.
  • At 21,600bph, this movement ticks more slowly than 28,800bph or 36,000bph alternatives. Verify beat rate if the movement appears to have been replaced.
