Authentication

The lug facet sharpness check applies identically to the SPB407 as to any Sharp Edged variant; polishing is irreversible.

Known issues in the market
  • SPB407 dial colors differ from the SPB169; confirm the reference number on the caseback to identify the correct variant.
  • The Seiko shield logo on the dial must be crisp at 10x magnification; blurry shields indicate counterfeiting.
AreaWhat to checkWhat is correctRed flag
caseLug facet sharpnessSharp right-angle transitions between polished and brushed lug surfaces at 10x magnificationAny rounding at facet transitions; polishing damage that cannot be reversed

Common legitimate replacements
  • Case polishing destroys the defining feature of the Sharp Edged line; confirm no polishing before purchase.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The SPB407 is a later Sharp Edged variant (2022) with similar faceted case design to the SPB169. The hand-finished faceted planes are the authentication anchor for all Sharp Edged references; any case with rounded or machine-polished planes is non-original. The SPB407 is lower-risk for reproductions than the SPB169 due to its more recent production.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

The SPB407 has minimal reproduction market presence due to its recent production and the difficulty of replicating the hand-finished case.

  • Rounded case transitions where sharp facets should be
  • Caseback with SPB169J1 engraving on a watch sold as the newer SPB407

Dial variants by era

toggle

  • Faceted dial texture with layered visual depth

  • Date window at 3
  • "PRESAGE" and "AUTOMATIC" text
  • Faceted mirror-polished case planes on lugs and case sides
  • Sapphire crystal

Service part flags

Case

Original: Same hand-finished faceted case as the SPB169. Mirror-polished planes meeting at sharp, unwavering transitions. Each facet should reflect light cleanly without scratches visible at the transition lines.

Replacement tells
  • Rounded or blended transitions between facet planes
  • Facets with visible machine-polish scratches rather than a clean hand-finished surface
  • Inconsistent facet depth between the left and right sides of the case
Dial

Original: Textured surface with dimensional depth under magnification. The Sharp Edged texture is more angular than the Cocktail Time texture.

Replacement tells
  • Flat printed texture without dimensional depth
  • Texture inconsistency near the date window
Caseback

Original: Solid caseback with SPB407J1 reference number.

Replacement tells
  • SPB169J1 engraving on a watch sold as the SPB407 (earlier generation part)
Hands

Original: Faceted sword-style hands consistent with the case design philosophy.

Replacement tells
  • Hands with rounded rather than faceted edges

Case back markings

toggle
2022 to present
  • SPB407J1 reference number
  • "100M" water resistance designation
  • "PRESAGE" designation
  • Cal. 6R35 designation
  • Seiko S logo

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. 6R35 at 28,800 bph; 70-hour power reserve. Hackable and manually windable.
  • A 4R35 designation on the caseback indicates a lower-tier movement has been installed.
