Authentication
The lug facet sharpness check applies identically to the SPB407 as to any Sharp Edged variant; polishing is irreversible.
- SPB407 dial colors differ from the SPB169; confirm the reference number on the caseback to identify the correct variant.
- The Seiko shield logo on the dial must be crisp at 10x magnification; blurry shields indicate counterfeiting.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| case | Lug facet sharpness | Sharp right-angle transitions between polished and brushed lug surfaces at 10x magnification | Any rounding at facet transitions; polishing damage that cannot be reversed |
| dial | Seiko shield logo crispness | Shield logo is sharp and correctly positioned at 10x magnification | Blurry or offset shield logo; counterfeit dial |
- Case polishing destroys the defining feature of the Sharp Edged line; confirm no polishing before purchase.
Authentication guide
The SPB407 is a later Sharp Edged variant (2022) with similar faceted case design to the SPB169. The hand-finished faceted planes are the authentication anchor for all Sharp Edged references; any case with rounded or machine-polished planes is non-original. The SPB407 is lower-risk for reproductions than the SPB169 due to its more recent production.
