Authentication

Only 50 RM 27-03 pieces exist; serial number verification with Richard Mille is mandatory, and the movement must appear suspended in the case by cables, not rigidly fixed.

Known issues in the market
  • Limited to 50 pieces; any RM 27-03 on the secondary market must have traceable serial number verification with Richard Mille.
  • The cable suspension system for the movement is a core design element; a rigidly fixed movement is non-genuine.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The RM 27-03 Nadal Tourbillon is a limited production piece; approximately 30 were made. Provenance documentation is effectively mandatory for authentication. The cable-suspended movement architecture is visible from multiple angles and has no credible reproduction at present.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
HIGH RISK

No credible reproduction of the RM 27-03 exists at this time due to the cable-suspension architecture.

  • Movement mounted on conventional pillars rather than cables: immediately disqualifying
  • Tourbillon cage with upper bridge rather than flying style

At this price point and production volume, the primary risk is a stolen or fraudulently documented genuine piece, not a mechanical reproduction. Provenance verification with Richard Mille directly is mandatory before any purchase.

EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2017 to 2018 (production run)Skeleton movement with cable-suspended tourbillon architecture; the tourbillon cage appears to float within the case because the movement is held by tensioned cables rather than conventional pillars.
  • Cable suspension: at least four tensioned cables visible connecting the movement plate to the case middle; observing from an angle reveals the cables holding the movement away from the case walls
  • Tourbillon cage is flying style (no upper bridge visible over the cage)
  • Case material: NTPT carbon and titanium composite; total weight approximately 29 to 32g

Cable suspension system

Original: Braided cable (similar to polyamide fiber used in high-tension applications) connects movement to case at four anchor points; visible through the sapphire crystal and caseback.

Replacement tells
  • Movement rests on conventional pillars or spacers rather than cables
  • No visible tension cables through the case sides or front
  • Movement does not flex slightly when the case is gently tapped (the genuine movement has a slight pendulum quality)

Case back markings

toggle
2017 to 2018
  • Sapphire caseback showing the RM27-03 movement from reverse
  • Cable anchor points visible at the caseback periphery
  • Serial number from the 30-piece production run; any serial outside that range is a red flag
  • Reference "RM 27-03" engraved on inner titanium ring

Movement tells

toggle
  • The tourbillon cage should complete one rotation per minute; timing it against a reference is a valid functional check.
  • The shock resistance architecture (the cables serve as the shock absorption system) means the movement will have a slight visco-elastic quality when observed; this is intentional.
  • With approximately 30 pieces in existence, the serial number should correlate to a specific documented watch; Richard Mille maintains records.
  • Any claimed RM 27-03 should come with full provenance: original purchase documentation, Richard Mille service records if serviced, and ideally the original delivery papers.
