Collectors pay attention to this generation specifically because the blue and green dial variants aged well and now trade at a mild premium over the base sunburst models.

What it is

Longines introduced this 41mm generation in 2017, replacing the prior HydroConquest lineup with a larger case, ceramic bezel insert, and updated bracelet. The L888.2 caliber is a Longines-regulated ETA 2892-A2 derivative, COSC-adjacent in performance though not certified. Production ran from 2017 until the current generation update; this reference is now discontinued at retail.

The blue and green dials drove the most demand during its production run and were often the first to sell through at authorized dealers. A 43mm variant also existed alongside the 41mm, though the 41mm was the volume seller.

Buying notes

Inspect the bracelet end links carefully on pre-owned examples; this generation received criticism for a less comfortable fit and the clasp finishing shows wear faster than the case. Verify the ceramic bezel insert is free of chips, particularly at the 12 o'clock pip, as replacement bezels add cost to a watch that is already priced modestly. Confirm crown seals are intact and that the watch has a pressure test record if it is being sold for dive use; service records matter more on a 300m-rated piece than on a dress watch.

The L888.2 is not user-serviceable; ensure the movement has no moisture intrusion visible through the caseback. For the blue and green variants, check that the dial color is consistent with no fading at the edges, which can occur if a previous owner subjected it to extended UV exposure.
