Market price
The HydroConquest 41mm is Longines's most practical sports watch and holds value solidly for its price tier; ceramic bezel variants sit at the top of the range.

Earlier L888.2 generation lacks silicon anti-magnetism; the caseback stamp is the definitive generational identifier.
- Seller represents the watch as L888.4 (silicon) when the caseback shows L888.2; the two generations have different anti-magnetic properties.
- Bezel click mechanism is loose on used examples; the spring detent wears with frequent diving use.
- Lume on the earlier generation may have a different color than more recent HydroConquest production; this is a generation characteristic, not a defect.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| caseback | Caliber generation identification | Caseback clearly shows L888.2; no "Silicon" text present; this matches the pre-2016 HydroConquest specification | Caseback showing L888.4 with "Silicon" on a watch represented as the earlier generation; mismatched caseback from a different variant |
| case | Bezel detent strength | Bezel clicks firmly at each of the 60 positions; no backslide between clicks | Soft detent that allows the bezel to drift between positions; bezel that rotates in both directions on a unidirectional-spec model |
| dial | Lume consistency across plots and hands | All lume plots and hands have the same color and patina; lume is fully intact on all indices | Mixed lume colors indicating individual index or hand replacement; missing lume on specific indices |
- Bezel insert on the earlier generation is aluminum rather than ceramic; aluminum inserts scratch and fade, and replacement inserts must match the original material.
- Crown gaskets are a service item on all HydroConquest variants; verify the crown screws down firmly and has no side play.
Authentication guide
The prior-generation HydroConquest (pre-2020 angular case) with the L888.2. The ceramic bezel and screw-down crown are the functional authentication points for a dive watch at this depth rating.
