Condition affects price
Pre-owned watches trade across a wide condition spectrum. These ranges are typical for the secondary market.

Market price
The Tourbillon Souverain Vertical is the reference that established Journe's reputation; secondary prices for vertical-clutch examples are firm and early production pieces with remontoir d'egalite are especially sought.
Editorial estimate, 2026 Q2. Actual prices vary by condition, date, and box/papers status.

True tourbillon cage rotation timed at one revolution per minute; time it to verify
- The Tourbillon Souverain is the most expensive standard FPJ production piece, generating the highest counterfeit incentive
- Fake tourbillon cages run but are powered by hidden motors rather than a true mechanical tourbillon
- Calibre 1403 is among the smallest tourbillon calibres produced; proportions alone are a tell
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| movement | True tourbillon cage rotation | Tourbillon cage completes one revolution per minute; time it with a stopwatch; cage rotation is smooth and mainspring-driven; no battery or motor hidden in the case; winding should change power reserve indicator | Cage rotation powered by hidden motor; rotation speed inconsistent with one revolution per minute; no corresponding change in power reserve when winding |
| dial | Regulator-style display and signing | Separate hours sub-dial at 12 and minutes indication; running seconds via tourbillon cage directly; "Tourbillon Souverain" signed; power reserve indicator; "F.P.Journe Genève" in correct typeface | Standard time display (Tourbillon Souverain uses regulator layout); incorrect signing; power reserve absent |
| caseback | Calibre 1403 and decoration | Calibre 1403 engraved; movement fully decorated with chamfered and polished steel; signed "F.P.Journe Genève"; hand-engraved balance cock | Incorrect calibre number; movement undecorated; generic engraving rather than hand-done work |
- Tourbillon cage is not a service replacement part; it must be rebuilt at the manufacture.
- Strap and buckle replacement is common; verify FPJ proprietary fitting.
Authentication guide
The Tourbillon Souverain Vertical houses Cal. 1519 with a remontoire d'egalite and a flying tourbillon visible at 6 o'clock. The constant-force remontoir is the mechanical distinction: it delivers constant torque to the escapement via a 10-second rewinding spring. Gold movement plates and the "F.P. Journe Invenit et Fecit" inscription are universal FPJ authentication anchors.
