Micro gas tubes glow in total darkness without prior light exposure; any Ball Watch that requires prior light exposure to glow has non-genuine lume.
Known issues in the market
- Micro gas tubes glow via tritium gas, not phosphorescent material; they require no prior light exposure.
- COSC chronometer certification is genuine on Ball watches; verify COSC text on the dial or in the papers.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |

The Engineer III Maverick uses Ball's tritium micro gas light tube system as its defining feature. Under a loupe, the tubes are visible as tiny glass cylinders embedded in the markers and hands. No other major production brand uses this system as a house signature.
