The all mirror-polished finish across case, bracelet, and dial is unique to this specific Defy Extreme reference; any brushed or matte surface is inconsistent with it.
Known issues in the market
- This is the only Defy Extreme finished entirely in mirror-polish; a mix of brushed and polished surfaces indicates a different Defy Extreme reference, not the Mirror.
- The El Primero 9004’s second, chronograph-dedicated 50Hz escapement is a genuine differentiator from lower-tier Zenith chronograph calibers; confirm the dual-regulator architecture rather than assuming any El Primero movement qualifies.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| case | All mirror-polish finish | Fully polished stainless steel case, dodecagonal bezel, crown guards, and integrated bracelet with no brushed or satin surfaces anywhere | Any brushed or satin-finished surface on case or bracelet; mismatched bracelet finish relative to the case |
| dial | Mirror-tinted openworked dial | Openworked dial with a mirror-finished central sapphire element, three snailed sub-dials in silver with black markings, applied rhodium-plated indices | Opaque or colored sub-dial backgrounds inconsistent with the mirror-tinted sapphire treatment |
| movement | El Primero 9004 dual-escapement architecture | Two distinct balance wheels/escapements visible through the open dial and caseback (5Hz timekeeping, 50Hz chronograph), Time Lab chronometer certification | Single-escapement movement; missing second balance wheel; absence of chronometer certification marking |
Common legitimate replacements
- Original mirror-polished steel bracelet; black rubber strap and hook-and-loop strap are authorized factory alternates for this reference.
