Last reviewed June 2026

The 1911 is Ebel's flagship round-case model. The reference number 1911 commemorates the brand's founding year. Applied baton markers and the diamond crown are the key identifiers.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

Not a meaningful counterfeit target.

  • Dial texture on replicas is typically flat or has a coarser guilloche pattern
  • Applied marker height on replicas is inconsistent; lean the watch and look across the dial surface from the side

Dial variants by era

EraDescriptionIdentifiers
1977 to present (multiple generations)40mm steel round case. Applied baton hour markers in polished steel. "EBEL" in bold on dial. Date at 3. Available with and without diamond markers depending on variant.
  • "1911" does not appear on the dial; the reference name is internal. Caseback and documentation will confirm.
  • Applied baton markers are tall and polished; flat printed markers are wrong
  • Dial has a guilloche or sunray texture on most variants; plain flat dials are unusual for this reference

Service part flags

toggle
Crown

Original: Diamond/kite-shaped crown; consistent Ebel house element.

Replacement tells
  • Round crown is incorrect
  • Loose crown engagement (wobble in the wound position) suggests worn crown tube
Dial

Original: Applied markers on textured dial; markers are press-fitted into the dial plate.

Replacement tells
  • Relume of applied markers changes their height profile slightly; examine from the side
  • Replaced dial will not have the matching serial-to-case documentation

Case back markings

toggle
1977 to present
  • "EBEL 1911" and "Swiss Made"
  • Reference and serial numbers
  • Movement designation (typically ETA 2892-A2)
  • Water resistance (30M for dress variants, 100M for sport variants)

Movement tells

toggle
  • ETA 2892-A2 is a high-quality slim automatic; rated for approximately 10+ years between services under normal use.
  • After service, confirm the exhibition caseback (if present) is properly sealed; the 1911 has both solid and open-caseback variants.
  • Running seconds should be smooth at 28,800 vph; any jumping or stuttering suggests a balance spring issue.
