Authentication

The star-drilled dial with individually drilled stars is the DB25 Starry Varius identity; any DB25 without the star-drilled dial is a different dial variant.

Known issues in the market
  • The drilled star dots must show depth through the dial; a printed star pattern is a non-genuine dial substitution.

The DB25 Starry Varius features a rotating "starry varius" display complication with multiple apertures showing day, date, and moon. Case in white gold, rose gold, or platinum at 42mm. One of De Bethune's most complex display references.

Known reproduction risks

LOW

No known replica. The varius display complication is unique to De Bethune and cannot be sourced or assembled outside their atelier.

  • Any DB25 with a conventional time display instead of the varius disc is a different reference

Verify the varius disc rotates smoothly and all aperture indications are correctly aligned before purchase.

Varius rotating display disc

Original: The varius disc is a large rotating component engraved or painted with the display indications. It should rotate smoothly and align precisely with each aperture on the dial.

Replacement tells
  • Display apertures that are misaligned with the disc indications
  • Disc that rotates but does not advance at the correct rate
  • Aperture edges with scratches indicating a replaced or improperly installed disc

Case back markings

toggle
2017 to present
  • DB25 Starry Varius designation
  • Individual serial number
  • 750WG, 750RG, or Pt material designation
  • De Bethune name
  • 30m water resistance

Movement tells

toggle
  • The DB25 Starry Varius uses the DB2105 caliber; the rotating display mechanism adds significant complexity over the base DB25.
  • All display apertures should align correctly with their indications at all times; misalignment after a service indicates improper reassembly.
  • Silicon components in the De Bethune escapement apply here as well; service requires De Bethune-trained technicians.
