The L.U.C Perpetual Twin uses a twin-barrel, 22k gold micro-rotor movement (Cal. 96.22-L) that keeps the case thin for a perpetual calendar automatic. There is no moonphase on this reference -- the display is day, twin-aperture date, month, and a leap-year indicator good until 2100.

Replicas of the L.U.C Perpetual Twin are extremely rare. The perpetual calendar complication with a twin-barrel micro-rotor movement is a difficult target for replica production.

  • A moonphase aperture present on the dial -- genuine examples of this reference do not have one
  • Exhibition caseback movement that does not show the twin-barrel micro-rotor architecture
  • Perpetual calendar displays that do not advance automatically at month-end
  • Case thickness inconsistent with the ultra-flat perpetual calendar profile

Twin-barrel micro-rotor system

Original: Cal. 96.22-L uses twin mainspring barrels and a 22k gold micro-rotor. The twin-barrel system keeps the force delivered to the escapement more consistent across the 65-hour power reserve than a single-barrel design, in a movement just 6mm thick. Visible through the sapphire caseback.

Perpetual calendar mechanism

Original: The perpetual calendar should advance correctly at all month-ends, including at February/March and at leap year. Testing a perpetual calendar over its full cycle requires either patience or quick-setting through the correctors.

  • Leap-year indicator that does not cycle on a four-year cadence (verifiable via the corrector cycle)

Movement tells

  • Cal. 96.22-L runs at 28,800bph with a 65-hour power reserve from twin barrels. A perpetual calendar movement requiring service will often show calendar displays that hesitate or jump in multiple steps at month-end.
  • The micro-rotor is the 22-karat gold signed version. Any deviation indicates either a movement swap or a service-replaced rotor from a non-authorized source.
  • Côtes de Genève finishing applies to the bridges. Under magnification, the finishing should show clean, consistent striping.
  • Perpetual calendar mechanisms require careful lubrication of the cam system at service. A watch serviced by an unauthorized shop may have calendar errors within a year of service.
