Authentication

Sub-dial centering is the primary counterfeit tell on the Heritage 1948; any off-center register is not genuine.

Known issues in the market
  • Sub-dial registers must be precisely centered within their round apertures; off-center printing is a counterfeit indicator.
  • The rectangular cushion case is exact to the 1948 reference; any deviation in case shape indicates a non-original or repro case.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Heritage 1948 Chronograph is a faithful reissue of Tissot's 1948 pump-pusher chronograph. The ETA 2894-2 inside is a high-quality column-wheel movement; the main authenticity concern is dial legibility and the condition of the pump pushers.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

The Heritage 1948 has low replica risk. Its vintage aesthetic and relatively modest market value make it an unattractive replica target.

  • Any replica will likely show blued hands that are too bright or oxidized unevenly
  • Sector dial printing will appear coarser on low-quality copies

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2011 to presentSilver sector dial with blued-steel hands. Arabic numerals at 12-hour positions. Two subsidiary dials: running seconds at 9, 30-minute counter at 3. Tissot T-logo and "TISSOT" text at 12. "HERITAGE 1948" below logo.
  • Blued-steel hands throughout (no lume)
  • Printed tachymeter scale on the chapter ring
  • Sub-dial text reads "30 MIN." and small seconds indicator
  • "SWISS MADE" below 6 o'clock

Service part flags

Pushers

Original: Pump-style round pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock. Brushed finish matching the case. The start/stop action is crisp with audible click.

Replacement tells
  • Pushers feel mushy or require excessive force
  • Crown-pusher finish does not match the case brushing
Dial

Original: Argenté (silver) dial with applied chapter ring. No lume plots. Arabic numerals are printed, not applied.

Replacement tells
  • Any lume applied to this dial is not original
  • Dial that shows "CHRONOGRAPH" text instead of "HERITAGE 1948" is a different reference

Case back markings

toggle
2011 to present
  • "TISSOT" and Swiss cross engraved on solid caseback
  • Reference number and serial number on the rim
  • "WATERRESISTANT 5ATM" marking
  • Snap-off caseback (not screw-in)

Movement tells

toggle
  • The ETA 2894-2 is a column-wheel chronograph with bidirectional winding rotor. Chronograph engagement should be instantaneous with no lag.
  • The 30-minute counter should advance one notch per minute without creeping. A chrono counter that drifts between marks indicates wear.
  • Power reserve is 42 hours. A watch that runs less than 36 hours from full wind needs service.
  • The movement has 37 jewels. A movement visible through a service port should not appear significantly simpler than a standard 25-jewel automatic.
