Authentication

Ceramic bezel is the primary authentication focus; any chip requires full insert replacement, not repair.

Known issues in the market
  • Ceramic bezel chips are irreparable; only full insert replacement through authorized service is correct.
  • Cal. 5 Sellita SW200 base is correct for this reference; do not confuse with higher-grade calibers.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The 2021 Aquaracer Professional 300 is a significant generational redesign: the new case is more angular, the bezel is now unidirectional with a ceramic insert, and the case profile is thinner than the prior generation. At 300m water resistance it competes directly with the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M. The ceramic bezel insert and case geometry are the primary authentication checks.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
MEDIUM

Replicas or earlier-generation Aquaracer models presented as the 2021 Professional 300.

  • Rounded case profile from the pre-2021 generation rather than the angular 2021 form
  • Bezel that scratches with a steel tool (ceramic does not)
  • Bidirectional bezel rotation on a stated Professional 300 (unidirectional only)
  • Aluminum bezel insert with a shinier surface than the matte genuine ceramic

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2021 to present (black)Black dial with applied indices and a date window at 3 o'clock. The 2021 case design is angular and contemporary, distinct from the older rounded Aquaracer profile.
  • Black dial with applied white-gold or steel indices with lume plots
  • Unidirectional rotating bezel with a ceramic insert -- a key upgrade from the prior generation's aluminum insert
  • More angular, contemporary case form compared to the pre-2021 Aquaracer
  • Date window at 3 o'clock with no Cyclops magnifier
  • 43mm case diameter with six-facet brushed and polished bezel profile
2021 to present (blue)Blue dial variant. Same case and movement as the black dial.
  • Blue sunburst dial with matching blue bezel insert
  • Applied indices with lume plots consistent across all 2021 Aquaracer variants

Service part flags

Ceramic bezel insert

Original: Unidirectional rotating bezel with a ceramic (not aluminum) insert. The ceramic has a matte finish and resists scratching from steel tools. The 60-minute scale is engraved or laser-printed. The pip at 12 o'clock is white-painted ceramic.

Replacement tells
  • Bezel insert that scratches when a steel key is dragged lightly across it -- genuine ceramic does not scratch; aluminum aftermarket inserts scratch easily
  • Insert with a shiny rather than matte surface finish (aluminum and resin aftermarket pieces often have a different sheen)
  • Pip at 12 with an incorrect profile or a hollow center where the genuine pip is solid
  • Bezel that rotates in both directions -- the Professional 300 bezel is unidirectional; bidirectional rotation indicates an incorrect bezel assembly
Case geometry and finishing

Original: The 2021 case has a distinctly angular profile with six facets on the bezel. The case flanks are brushed; the lug tops have a polished chamfer. This is a departure from the prior-generation rounded profile.

Replacement tells
  • Rounded case sides consistent with the pre-2021 Aquaracer -- the 2021 generation has angular facets, not rounded flanks
  • All-polished or all-brushed case without the mixed finishing of the genuine 2021 case
  • Lug profile inconsistent with the 43mm 2021 case geometry
Screw-down crown

Original: The Aquaracer Professional 300 uses a screw-down crown for 300m water resistance. The crown should resist rotation until unscrewed and should seat firmly when screwed back.

Replacement tells
  • Crown that rotates freely without a screw-down mechanism -- a push/pull crown on a stated 300m watch is wrong
  • Crown that does not seat flush when screwed in, leaving a gap against the crown guard

Case back markings

toggle
2021 to present
  • Solid caseback with perimeter engraving identifying the Aquaracer Professional 300
  • "300M / 1000FT" water resistance rating engraved on the caseback or printed on the dial
  • "TAG HEUER AQUARACER PROFESSIONAL" on the outer ring
  • Serial number on the case midband

Movement tells

toggle
  • Calibre 5 (TH20-00) is a Sellita SW200-1 base, TAG-finished. It runs at 28,800bph with approximately 38 hours power reserve. Reliable and well-supported; not a collector-tier movement but entirely serviceable.
  • A fully wound Aquaracer Professional 300 should run approximately 36 to 40 hours. Power reserve significantly shorter than 30 hours indicates a mainspring needing service.
  • Screw-down crown engages the 300m water resistance. Any crown that does not screw down is not correct for this reference.
  • Quickset date at crown position 2 should correct cleanly with a click. Grinding indicates date train wear.
