Authentication

The stainless steel Calatrava is rarer than gold variants; verify the 18k hallmark claim versus the actual steel case and check for the Clous de Paris caseback.

Known issues in the market
  • Some listings incorrectly claim white gold rather than stainless steel; the 18k hallmark inside the caseback is absent for steel.
  • The Clous de Paris hobnail pattern is on the caseback only for this reference; verify it is present.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The 6007A is the most accessible-priced current Calatrava -- a steel-cased time-only reference with a classical ivory dial and Cal. 30-255 PS manual-wind. As an entry point to Patek, it is a reference where careful applied text and movement finishing verification matters.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

Replica steel Calatrava dress watches in the general Calatrava form factor; the 6007A is a lower-premium target than sport references.

  • Flat "Patek Philippe" text rather than applied raised text
  • Hands that appear black rather than blued steel
  • Caseback without the Calatrava cross in relief, or with a pressed-on cross rather than cast
  • Applied baton indices at inconsistent angles or heights

Dial variants by era

EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2019 to present (standard production)Steel case, ivory lacquer dial with applied baton indices, and blued steel hands.
  • Ivory/cream lacquer dial with a warm white tone
  • Applied polished steel baton indices
  • "Patek Philippe" and "Geneve" applied text with correct raised shadow under raking light
  • Calatrava cross at 12 in applied steel
  • Blued steel leaf hands in the traditional Calatrava format
  • No date function

Dial

Original: Ivory lacquer. The warmth of the ivory tone is specific -- not pure white, not yellow. Applied "Patek Philippe" text casts a visible shadow. Applied baton indices have a flat polished top surface.

Replacement tells
  • Pure white dial without the correct ivory warmth -- service dials sometimes differ in tone
  • Flat "Patek Philippe" text without shadow
  • Applied indices that appear at inconsistent heights above the dial surface
Hands

Original: Blued steel leaf hands. The blue is thermally achieved and shows gradation toward the tips. Leaf taper is graceful from stem to tip.

Replacement tells
  • Black or dark grey hands rather than true blued steel
  • Uniform synthetic coating without the correct thermal gradation
  • Blunt or thickened hand tips rather than the graceful leaf taper

Case back markings

toggle
2019 to present
  • Solid Calatrava cross caseback in steel with "Patek Philippe & Co Geneve" engraved in a circular arc
  • Reference 6007A-001 and serial number on the case flank
  • Stainless steel case -- no precious metal hallmark
  • Movement visible only at service; Cal. 30-255 PS must be confirmed by a watchmaker

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. 30-255 PS is a manual-wind movement at 2.53mm height. It is one of the thinnest Patek production calibers and produces a notably flat case profile.
  • Manual wind should feel smooth with progressive spring-back resistance as the mainspring approaches full wind. Any grit, skip, or inconsistent feedback indicates a service requirement.
  • No date, no quickset, no additional complications. If the watch includes any additional function, it is a different reference.
  • Gyromax balance wheel with four gold weights and Geneva Seal finishing on all bridges are the authentication standards.
  • Patek's solid casebacks seal the movement; opening a 6007A requires appropriate tools and a trained watchmaker. Avoid any watch where the caseback shows forced-opening marks or scratches around the case rim.
