Authentication
The vintage-style bezel pip color and luminova shape are the fastest authentication check on the most commonly counterfeited Oris reference.
Known issues in the market
- Counterfeit bezel inserts with incorrect pip shape; genuine Divers Sixty-Five has a round luminous pip, not rectangular or teardrop.
- Caliber marking confusion; Cal. 733 is based on Sellita SW200-1 and Oris is transparent about this; movement substitution with non-Oris-finished SW200-1 is possible.
- Cushion lug profile fakes; the specific lug shape is a key visual indicator and poorly made fakes get the angle wrong.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| case | Bezel pip shape and color | Round luminous pip at 12 o'clock on the bezel insert; pip is circular, not oval or rectangular; consistent lume fill with no cracking or missing sections | Rectangular or teardrop pip shape; missing pip; pip lume fill that is cracked, brown, or completely degraded on a modern example |
| case | Cushion-shaped lug profile | 40mm case with distinctive cushion-shaped lugs; lugs curve forward and have correct angle; brushed case with polished bevels | Lugs with incorrect angle or profile; case that does not have the cushion shape; polished-only case without brushed finishing |
| movement | Cal. 733 (SW200-1 base) | SW200-1 architecture visible at caseback; Oris-signed rotor; Oris finishing on visible movement components; 38-hour power reserve | Non-Oris-signed rotor; SW200-1 in completely stock Sellita finishing without Oris customization; movement architecture not consistent with SW200-1 |
| caseback | Oris caseback engraving and diver text | Oris divers certification text on caseback; water resistance rating; Oris logo and reference text; screw-down caseback for water resistance | Missing diver certification text; incorrect water resistance rating; caseback that is press-fit rather than screw-down |
| dial | Vintage-style dial with correct Oris typography | "ORIS" and "DIVERS SIXTY-FIVE" text in correct vintage font; applied indices with correct lume shape; 40mm proportioned layout | Incorrect typography; printed rather than applied indices; lume shape inconsistent with factory specification |
Common legitimate replacements
- Canvas straps are the most commonly replaced component; original Oris canvas strap with Oris buckle is preferred but non-original straps are common and acceptable.
- Bezel inserts are replaced after scratching; verify replacement pip shape is round as specified.
- Cal. 733 crowns and tubes are replaced after damage; Oris-signed crown is required.
