Authentication

The vintage-style bezel pip color and luminova shape are the fastest authentication check on the most commonly counterfeited Oris reference.

Known issues in the market
  • Counterfeit bezel inserts with incorrect pip shape; genuine Divers Sixty-Five has a round luminous pip, not rectangular or teardrop.
  • Caliber marking confusion; Cal. 733 is based on Sellita SW200-1 and Oris is transparent about this; movement substitution with non-Oris-finished SW200-1 is possible.
  • Cushion lug profile fakes; the specific lug shape is a key visual indicator and poorly made fakes get the angle wrong.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Canvas straps are the most commonly replaced component; original Oris canvas strap with Oris buckle is preferred but non-original straps are common and acceptable.
  • Bezel inserts are replaced after scratching; verify replacement pip shape is round as specified.
  • Cal. 733 crowns and tubes are replaced after damage; Oris-signed crown is required.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

Oris Divers Sixty-Five 40mm (ref. 01 733 7707 4035-07 5 20 89), Cal. 733 on a Sellita SW200-1 base. A 2015-present modern diver with deliberate 1965 retro aesthetics. Reproductions exist; the case profile and crystal are the first authentication checkpoints.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
HIGH RISK

Full case reproductions of the Divers Sixty-Five exist. The case profile is the most reliable discriminator.

  • Reproduction lugs lack the signature "cigarette" curve; they appear straighter when viewed from the side
  • Bezel rotation feel on reproductions is notchy or one-directional when it should be unidirectional with clear 120-click detents
  • Dial text on reproductions uses inconsistent font weight on "Divers Sixty-Five" compared to production pieces
  • Caseback engravings on reproductions are often shallow and lack crisp definition

Sapphire vs. acrylic crystal distinction is key. On a genuine acrylic-spec example the dome is obvious; on a reproduction the dome is usually too flat.

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
2015 to 2018Launch generation. Domed acrylic crystal on some models; applied indices with broad dauphine hands. "Oris" at 12, "Divers Sixty-Five" and "Swiss Made" at 6.
  • Domed acrylic crystal on selected acrylic-spec variants
  • Broad dauphine hour and minute hands
  • Aluminum bezel insert with 60-minute graduated scale
  • No "01" prefix printed on dial
2019 to presentOngoing production. Sapphire crystal standard. Some anniversary editions carry unique text or case metal. Bezel insert material is aluminum.
  • Sapphire crystal with pronounced dome profile
  • Cigarette-style curved lugs visible from the side
  • Date window at 3 o'clock with cyclops-free sapphire
  • Caseback secured by six screws, solid stainless steel

Service part flags

toggle
Crystal

Original: Sapphire on production models from 2019 onward. Domed acrylic on specific early/acrylic variants. The dome profile is pronounced.

Replacement tells
  • Flat glass in place of domed sapphire indicates non-original part
  • Acrylic on a post-2019 example that should be sapphire is a substitution
  • Surface scratches on the crystal of a claimed-acrylic example confirm acrylic; a pristine surface on the same claim warrants scrutiny
Bezel Insert

Original: Aluminum insert with minute track. Color options include black, blue, and various special editions.

Replacement tells
  • Insert with misaligned zero index at 12 o'clock
  • Printed scale that flakes or shows inconsistent font weight
  • Insert that sits proud of the bezel lip or has visible adhesive at the edge
Crown

Original: Signed Oris crown, push-pull style with single gasket. No screw-down on the standard Divers 65.

Replacement tells
  • Unsigned crown
  • Screw-down crown on a non-professional variant

Case back markings

toggle
2015 to present
  • "ORIS" across the caseback center
  • "DIVERS SIXTY-FIVE" around the perimeter
  • Reference number and serial engraved
  • "SWISS MADE" and water resistance rating
  • Six-screw caseback with milled edge

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. 733 is a Sellita SW200-1 base. The rotor is Oris-signed with the red Oris logo. A generic Sellita rotor without Oris finishing indicates a service substitution.
  • Beat rate is 28,800 bph (8 ticks per second). Any movement running at 21,600 bph (6 ticks) is a different base caliber.
  • Power reserve is 38 hours. A movement claiming Cal. 733 but displaying a 5-day reserve indicator is not Cal. 733.
  • The movement plate and bridges show Oris-branded finishing. A completely bare ETA or Sellita without Oris branding signals a non-original movement swap.
