Cal. 8500 Master Chronometer is the movement to verify through the exhibition caseback; any De Ville Prestige 42mm without Co-Axial architecture through the caseback has a movement swap.
- The Co-Axial escapement fork in Cal. 8500 is the primary verification point; standard lever escapement means ETA or other non-Co-Axial movement.
- Cal. 8500 and Cal. 8501 are architecturally identical; surface finish differs between them but the caseback view is nearly the same.
- The larger 42mm case is prone to bracelet stretch on the integrated bracelet; inspect each link for lateral play.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| movement | Co-Axial escapement architecture | Cal. 8500 with Co-Axial three-arm lever fork visible through caseback, 25,200bph | Standard ETA lever without Co-Axial fork; movement labeled with any caliber other than 8500 or 8501 |
| dial | Sunray finish | Consistent sunray brushing from center outward, clean transition at the chapter ring | Uneven brushing direction, visible re-polishing marks, or inconsistent sheen across the dial |
| bracelet | Integrated bracelet condition | Each link moves smoothly with no lateral play; clasp deploys and locks cleanly | Lateral play in links indicating stretch; clasp that does not lock positively |
- Integrated bracelets are occasionally replaced with non-Omega alternatives on worn examples; confirm the clasp is Omega-signed.
- Exhibition casebacks on De Ville models are rarely swapped but inspect the caseback gasket for signs of repeated opening.
Authentication guide
The De Ville Prestige 42mm uses the Co-Axial Master Chronometer cal. 8500 -- mechanical, not quartz. The seed data confirms cal. 8500. Inspect the seconds hand sweep for the smooth Co-Axial motion to confirm mechanical operation. The slim profile and applied indices are the visual anchors.
