Authentication

Verify the caseback caliber number matches the 38mm chronograph designation; the two Laureato chrono sizes use different movement codes.

Known issues in the market
  • The 38mm and 42mm Laureato chronographs share the same case shape but use different movement caliber designations; verify the caseback text.
  • The column-wheel caseback check applies equally to both sizes; any solid caseback is incorrect.

Common legitimate replacements
  • Integrated bracelets from the 42mm variant are occasionally substituted on 38mm examples; verify proportions carefully.
  • Factory straps for the 38mm are narrower than the 42mm; an oversized strap is an aftermarket replacement.

Last reviewed June 2026

The Laureato Chronograph 38mm shares the octagonal bezel language with the 42mm but fits a COSC-certified movement into a smaller case. The size distinction from the 42mm is the most common point of confusion on gray market listings.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

Replicas of the 38mm Laureato Chrono are uncommon; most replica production targets the 42mm. A stated 38mm that measures larger is likely a mislabeled 42mm replica.

  • Case diameter measuring 42mm on a stated 38mm
  • Bezel screw count other than 8
  • Movement visible through caseback that does not show column-wheel architecture

Dial variants by era

toggle
EraDescriptionIdentifiers
Current production Laureato Chrono 38mmSame three-register layout as the 42mm variant, scaled to the 38mm case. The dial proportions are slightly tighter.
  • Octagonal bezel with 8 polished screws at the corners
  • Chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock, proportionally scaled to the 38mm case
  • "Girard-Perregaux" and "Laureato" text in the correct typeface
  • Case diameter of 38mm, not 42mm, which is perceptible when worn or measured
  • Sub-dial registers proportionally smaller than the 42mm to accommodate the smaller dial footprint

Service part flags

toggle
COSC certification

Original: Cal. GP03300-0113 carries COSC chronometric certification. The movement should achieve the COSC standard of -4/+6 seconds per day rate accuracy. This can be confirmed on a timegrapher.

Replacement tells
  • Movement rate significantly outside the -4/+6 seconds per day COSC tolerance on a timegrapher, which may indicate a non-original movement or a movement requiring service
  • Service documentation that does not reference the COSC caliber number
Pushers and case

Original: Same pusher construction as the 42mm. Screw-down crown and pushers are not present on all variants; check the specific configuration for the stated reference.

Replacement tells
  • Pushers that are not flush with the case profile when released
  • Crown that does not screw down to the case when closed on a stated water-resistant variant

Case back markings

toggle
Current production
  • Exhibition caseback displaying Cal. GP03300-0113
  • "COSC" or chronometric reference visible on the movement or documentation
  • Reference 81020-11-131-11A on the case band
  • "Girard-Perregaux" and "Genève" on the movement

Movement tells

toggle
  • Cal. GP03300-0113 at 28,800bph and 54-hour power reserve. COSC certification means the movement was tested to the -4/+6 standard before delivery. Rate testing at purchase remains the best functional verification.
  • Column-wheel architecture, same as the 42mm. Verify through the exhibition caseback.
  • GP finishing standard applies: Côtes de Genève on plates, hand-chamfered bridges.
