Original: Eight polished screws at the corners of the octagon, one per corner. The bezel alternates between brushed and polished facets. This is the highest-priority visual check for the Laureato.

• Bezel screw count other than 8
• Screws at the midpoints of the octagon faces rather than at the corners
• Bezel screws that are brushed rather than polished
• Bezel finishing that is uniformly brushed or polished without the alternating pattern
• Bezel shape that is hexagonal, decagonal, or round rather than octagonal

Original: The bracelet tapers from the case lugs to the clasp. The link construction is the same throughout, alternating brushed and polished. The fold-over deployant clasp is signed "GP" on the inner face.

• Bracelet that does not taper, or tapers at an incorrect angle relative to known genuine Laureato examples
• Clasp without "GP" or "Girard-Perregaux" text on the inner face
• Link finishing that does not alternate brushed and polished surfaces
• Bracelet that rattles or has loose links inconsistent with a well-maintained original

Original: The case body shows the same alternating brushed and polished surface treatment as the bezel and bracelet. The transition between brushed and polished surfaces should be sharp and consistent on each face.

• Case with fully polished surfaces -- genuine Laureato cases are never fully polished
• Inconsistent finish transitions where the brushed-to-polished boundary is blurry or ragged
• Polishing marks visible on surfaces that should be brushed, indicating refinishing
