The L.U.C XPF is a flyback chronograph in the ultra-thin XPS case family, carrying both the Geneva Seal and COSC certification. Cal. 1.96 is a manual-wind caliber, making it the only L.U.C reference in this guide without the micro-rotor. A caseback showing a rotor is immediately incorrect.

L.U.C XPF replicas are rare. The manual-wind flyback with dual certification is among the most complex targets in the Chopard catalog.

Manual-wind confirmation

Original: Cal. 1.96 is a manual-wind movement. There is no rotor. The exhibition caseback will show the full movement plates without any rotor obscuring them. The crown winds the movement directly, with a perceptible increase in crown resistance as the mainspring approaches full wind.

Replacement tells
  • Any rotor visible through the exhibition caseback on a stated XPF -- this indicates a movement swap to an automatic caliber entirely
  • Crown that winds with no resistance regardless of power reserve level, suggesting a broken mainspring or coupling
Flyback function

Original: Same flyback principle as the Alpine Eagle XL Chrono: pressing reset while running instantly resets and restarts. A non-flyback movement presents differently.

Replacement tells
  • Chronograph that requires a stop then reset then restart sequence rather than flyback instant reset-and-start
  • Reset that moves the seconds hand in two steps rather than a single snap to 12:00
Dual certification

Original: Cal. 1.96 carries both the Geneva Seal and COSC chronometric certification. Both are reflected in the movement finishing and rate performance.

Replacement tells
  • Movement finishing under magnification that shows machine-uniform chamfers without hand-work variability, inconsistent with the Geneva Seal standard
  • Rate significantly outside the COSC -4/+6 seconds per day standard on a well-maintained example

  • Cal. 1.96 is a manual-wind flyback chronograph at 28,800bph with 65-hour power reserve. A fully wound XPF should sustain accurate timekeeping for the full 65-hour reserve.
  • Flyback chronograph mechanisms are sensitive to correct lubrication of the reset lever return spring. A sluggish or partial flyback is almost always a lubrication issue at service.
  • Geneva Seal requires hand-chamfered edges, polished anglages, and surfaces prepared to standard. Under magnification, the XPF movement should show non-uniform bevel widths characteristic of hand-finishing.
  • COSC certification means the movement was tested to the -4/+6 seconds per day standard as a movement before casing. A timegrapher check confirms the movement has not drifted significantly from that standard.
