Authentication

Railroad-track minute chapter ring must be fully legible; micro gas tubes glow in darkness without prior light exposure.

Known issues in the market
  • COSC certification is standard across Ball references; verify the certification designation on the dial.
  • The railroad-track chapter ring is an original design element; fading or scratching reduces dial integrity.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Trainmaster Cannonball is Ball's dress-leaning model with open-heart display and multiple tritium tubes. The railroad-heritage aesthetic is the design anchor; the tritium system is the Ball authentication signature regardless of the model line.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
LOW

The Trainmaster Cannonball is a niche model; reproductions are uncommon. Main risk is a service-modified movement visible through the open heart.

  • A non-Ball rotor visible through the open caseback is an immediate flag
  • Any visible movement parts that look sanded, polished, or recased should be explained by the seller

Dial variants by era

Open-Heart Aperture

Original: Aperture is factory-cut; the balance wheel is visible and in motion.

Replacement tells

  • Exhibition caseback (sapphire crystal over movement)
  • Serial number engraved on case band
  • "SWISS MADE"

Movement tells

toggle
  • Movement is Ball Caliber RR1502 or similar; ETA base with Ball finishing and rotor.
  • Open-heart models require movement inspection to confirm the visible sub-dial is factory-original.
  • Tritium glow test applies as with all Ball models.
