Mechanical Grand Seikos are built at the Shinshu Watch Studio in Shiojiri (Nagano); Spring Drive and the high-end mechanical lines are made at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio in Iwate.
Established 1960 by Seiko in Suwa, Japan, as the high-end manufacture-grade arm of Seiko. Spun off as an independent brand in 2017. Grand Seiko has consistently produced some of the most-precise mechanical watches in production (the 9S caliber series) plus the Spring Drive (a quartz-regulated mechanical hybrid). The dial finishing, particularly the natural-landscape-inspired textures (Snowflake, Shunbun, Birch), is widely acknowledged as best-in-class at the price point.
