White dial and Spring Drive GMT distinguish the SBGJ223; same authentication principles as SBGJ201
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| dial | White dial with GMT designation | Clean white dial; "Spring Drive" and "GMT" both signed; GMT hand tip color distinct from hour and minute hands; date at 3; luminous plots with correct Grand Seiko application | Missing either "Spring Drive" or "GMT"; dial color inconsistent with documented white variants; incorrect luminous plot shape |
| movement | Spring Drive 9R86 authentication | Identical to SBGJ201: glide motion, tri-synchro regulator, Grand Seiko signed rotor | Any stepping or ticking; wrong calibre; incorrect caseback engraving |
| case | Case and bezel condition | 44GS case lines maintained; bezel insert free of chips; alternating surface finishes sharp | Polished case transitions; chipped or replaced bezel insert; case proportions inconsistent with 44GS |
The SBGJ223 shares Cal. 9S86 with the SBGJ201 but uses a blue textured dial introduced in 2019. The blue dial has a physical grain that changes character at different light angles. Authentication protocol is identical to the SBGJ201 with the addition of dial texture verification.
