Price trend chart coming soon

The Malte Tourbillon in the tonneau case is a technically and aesthetically distinctive piece; secondary prices are firm because the combination of tourbillon and shaped case limits production and appeals strongly to complication collectors.

Editorial estimate, 2026 Q2. Actual prices vary by condition, date, and box/papers status.

Movement tier: unclassified · caliber Vacheron Cal. 2795: manual-wind tourbillon, 18,000bph, 45h PR, 230+ parts; used in Malte Tourbillon; Hallmark of Geneva, hand-beveled bridges · 45h power reserve

Authentication

Time the tourbillon cage rotation with a stopwatch; it must complete exactly one revolution per 60 seconds.

Known issues in the market
  • Tourbillon cage rotation outside the 60-second interval indicates regulation or pivot damage.
  • Geneva Seal requirements mandate specific finishing; any movement with rough edges or unfinished bridges is not in original factory condition.

Authentication guide

Last reviewed June 2026

The Malte Tourbillon is VC's most visible haute horlogerie piece in the contemporary collection. The tourbillon cage is observable through the dial aperture at 6 o'clock without opening the watch, making it the primary authentication anchor. Cage rotation must be consistent and the one-minute cycle is the most reliable functional check.

Known reproduction risks

toggle
MEDIUM

Non-rotating or decorative tourbillon displays in replica tonneau cases. The cage rotation test is definitive and requires no tools.

  • Cage that does not complete one full revolution in 60 seconds
  • Cage that does not rotate at all while the watch is running
  • No parallax visible on the cage when the viewing angle changes
  • Cage spoke geometry inconsistent with Cal. 2795 T documentation

Functional tourbillon replicas exist but their cage geometry and finishing are consistently different from genuine VC examples under any magnification.

Dial variants by era

EraDescriptionIdentifiers
Current 30130 generationGuilloché dial in rose gold case with a large aperture at 6 o'clock displaying the one-minute tourbillon cage. Hours and minutes only on the main dial.
  • Large tourbillon aperture at 6 o'clock showing the full cage diameter and carriage
  • Guilloché or plain dial depending on specific sub-variant; guilloché must exhibit genuine depth
  • Hours and minutes only; no date, no other complications
  • "Vacheron Constantin" and "Geneve" text in the correct typeface
  • Applied rose gold markers; no luminous fill
  • Tonneau case shape following the Malte design language

Tourbillon cage and carriage

Original: The tourbillon cage completes exactly one revolution per minute. The cage should be visibly rotating at all times when the watch is running. The cage architecture in genuine Cal. 2795 T is defined by its bridge shape and spoke geometry, documented in VC technical materials.

Replacement tells
  • Cage that is stationary while the watch is running; indicates the tourbillon mechanism is stopped
  • Cage that completes one revolution in other than 60 seconds; a time test is simple and definitive
  • Cage spoke geometry inconsistent with known Cal. 2795 T documentation
  • Non-rotating decorative tourbillon window; some replica pieces use a non-functional display
Dial aperture

Original: The tourbillon aperture has a clean, precisely machined opening with no rough edges. The cage is visible in three dimensions through the sapphire crystal, producing parallax when the watch angle changes.

Replacement tells
  • Aperture with any visible tool marks or rough finishing around the edges
  • No parallax on the cage as viewing angle changes (indicates a printed or photographed display rather than a functional tourbillon)
  • Cage that appears flat when viewed at an angle rather than exhibiting genuine three-dimensional depth
Crown and winding

Original: The Malte Tourbillon is manually wound. The crown should wind with consistent resistance that increases as the mainspring approaches full wind. Winding past full wind should produce an audible slip-click from the mainspring safety mechanism.

Replacement tells
  • Crown that winds without resistance at any position; indicates a broken mainspring
  • No slip-click sensation at full wind
  • Unusual noise or grinding sensation during winding

Case back markings

toggle
Current 30130 generation
  • Exhibition caseback displaying Cal. 2795 T
  • Poincon de Geneve on every visible movement surface; Malte Tourbillon meets the strictest finishing standard VC produces
  • Tourbillon carriage visible from the caseback side in a different orientation than through the dial
  • 750 hallmark on case band
  • Reference 30130/000R-9754 and serial number on the case band

Movement tells

toggle
  • The one-minute tourbillon rotation is the definitive functional test. Time the cage through three full revolutions using a seconds hand on a phone. Each revolution must be 60 seconds within normal timekeeping tolerance.
  • Cal. 2795 T finishing under magnification must show Poincon de Geneve standards on every surface including the tourbillon cage itself. The cage beveling and polishing is a craft benchmark within VC.
  • Power reserve on this caliber is approximately 45 hours. A fully wound Malte Tourbillon stopping before 35 hours warrants inspection.
  • The balance inside the tourbillon cage beats at 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz). The movement therefore ticks visibly slower through the dial aperture than a standard 28,800 vph caliber. A faster-ticking cage indicates a non-original movement.
