The EMC's defining feature is the optical-sensor precision/amplitude readout on the dial; a unit that cannot complete a monitoring cycle after winding the crank handle has a failed EMC electronic module, not just a dead mechanical movement.
Known issues in the market
- The manual-winding generator crank on the case side is a functional part, not decorative: it must fold out and turn freely to charge the monitoring circuit.
- The caseback fine-tuning screw adjusts the active spring length; a screw that has clearly been forced or shows tool marks beyond normal service wear suggests amateur tampering.
| Area | What to check | What is correct | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| movement | Optical-sensor monitoring cycle | After winding the hand-crank generator and pressing the activation button, the dial-side precision/amplitude subdial completes a reading cycle (showing "?" during processing, then a rate in seconds/day) | No reading, stuck display, or cycle that never completes; failed EMC electronic module |
| movement | UR-EMC2 architecture through caseback | Twin vertically-stacked mainspring barrels, ARCAP balance wheel with optical sensor, Côtes de Genève and micro-bead-blasted finishing visible through the display back | Movement architecture inconsistent with UR-EMC2; missing optical sensor components |
| caseback | Urwerk serial and EMC Time Hunter reference | Urwerk serial and reference correctly engraved | Missing or incorrect engravings; non-genuine caseback |
